| Just wondering if I am doing the right thing ♥ I'm Linda from Nova Scotia, Canada. I got myself a male 2 month old yorkshire terrier, and his name is Sir Benji. I have had him for 4 days now, when we first brought him home he was going onto the wet pad and I was saying Good boy. Then the third day he started going on the floor and when I put him on the wet pad he would just lay there and I would wait and nothing but as soon as I took him off he would do it on the floor again, every now and then I will catch him and put him on the wet pad and he will go. I am just wondering if that is something to worry about or just keep doing what I am doing. I did take him out once after we got back from the vet and he used outside. I said good boy. So I am wondering what should I do. This is my first Yorkshire puppy and I love him so much but just want him to go on the wet pad or should I just keep taking him outside every 2 hours. Any advice? Thanks for listening, Linda ♥ |

| Columbo is 9 years old and around 8 lbs. He can hold it from 8 to 5 if needed, but it's rare that I'm not around to let him out several times during the day. He really only asks to go out in the evening. The rest of the time, I'm asking him or giving him the opportunity if he has to. I think you are smart to take him out every two hours because you've trained him well, giving less opportunities for accidents. You can start to increase that time now, though. The problem with Columbo is that he rarely pees it all out in one pee. I think he saves it, especially on walks, to mark different areas. So I have to make sure that if I'm going out for a long day, that I've given him multiple times to pee before leaving, like walk him around the yard or a short walk down the road, so I know he doesn't have to go. I think he just sleeps whenever he's home alone, though, so he never has to go until there's more excitement going on. |

| On average, I would say 4x a day. Morning, afternoon, evening and night. But if I'm home all day and whatnot, he may ask to go out more.

| Gizmo goes a lot !!!! But........ He knows he gets a small treat when he uses his pads, so he's pretty much working the system lol. I've had him checked by the vet, and she agrees, he's figured out how to get extra treats, but I have him figured out, so I only break off little pieces at a time :-) at night while we are sleeping, he doesn't go nearly as much because he knows we are not awake to give him treats :-) |

YT 1000 Club Member | I have a Doggy Door that leads out to a very secure yard, and my (4) guys go out anytime they need to, to play, use the potty, and that includes the middle of the night. The only time I put a Pad down is when it's pouring down rain, and that's right in front of their Door. They don't like to get rained on, LOL. The Door has been one of the most helpful things I've ever gotten. Scheduling Potty breaks is a non-issue.

My older dog goes outside A LOT!! In fact, he rarely makes it through the night without getting up at least once or twice...and he doesn't use pee pads My little guy holds it forever....and it worries me. I don't want him getting a UTI from it or anything. He has pee pads in the house that he will use, but for some reason, he doesn't like to go on them in front of me....and it's too cold to take him outside. | |

| 16lb Yorkie - 7 years old - Pees all over floor/chairs Our Male 16 lb. Yorkie was trained to pee on a pad... he never had a problem doing that.. He also has a doggie door to go out back if he wants to go... The pads are always clean and picked up and a new one put down.. The past month, he has been peeing all over my kitchen floor, cabinets and chairs and not on the clean pad... Should I take him to vet? He's not in any pain. Can't figure out why he's doing this... He does it when we're home, when we're not home... He is going to be 8 in April.. Vet should he should weight up to 12lbs for his size, so he's a little over weight... We take him on walks to pee, to exercise him... Any help would be greatly appreciate. My husband is starting to lose it! |

But, yes, I would definitely take him to the vet to check for UTI possibly. To answer the original question -- Jackson is 18lbs and I would say he HAS to pee 4x a day. If we are out in the yard a lot during the summer, etc, he'll likely go more. But if we're just going out for potty breaks, it's morning, afternoon, evening, and night. He will typically poop twice.
