| If you want a dog who will worship you, consider a rescue of some kind. I have two dogs (a choc lab, and one of my yorkies) that I ended up with because their owners were never home to give them the attention they needed. When I got them, they were just love-starved, and there is a big difference between them and my yorkie pup, who's been loved and spoiled to death her entire life. They really seem to appreciate how different their lives are now, and my yorkie girl is so attached to me, it's pathetic. She follows me EVERYwhere I go, and HAS to know where I am at all times. Of course, they still like everyone else in the family, and strangers as well.

| Before I decided on my Yorkie, I was going to get a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, which is basically the toy version of a spaniel. They tend to be lap dogs and very loyal to their owners. Plus, they are adorable! But a bit pricey. Most breeders I talked to were asking around $2,000

I would not want a dog that didn't like strangers. They would bark at everything and might bite. Maybe you should get a cat. They are lazier, love to be petted and pampered, and usually prefer on person.

| Our 1st little girl is a Maltese, loves to cuddle & be held. Piper our Morkie (Maltese & Yorkie) mix loves being held even more. She acts more like a Yorkie, talking back and so, but loves to please. |

| Try the Brussels Griffon. Booger loves to just sit on my lap or for me to hold him. Whereas Gator (Yorkie) is none stop and I can only hold him for a second.

| We have an imperial shih tzu (imperial just a word to describe that's she pretty tiny). She's a cuddler for sure and she has definetely identified me, her momma, as the pack leader. She's great with strangers ( I'm not really sure why you wouldn't want you pup to be good with strangers?), great with my kids and hubby, but she has a special bond with me. I get longer cuddles and more kisses than the others and most of the time when someone else is holding her and I come into the room she goes nuts until I hold her. |

i really dont understand this at all having an aggressive dog is not fun at all you can NOT take them any where if they bite someone they WILL be put to sleep you dont need an aggressive dog to have a loyal dog 2 of my dogs LOVE people but are very loyal and would LOVE to be on my lap all day & with us and you want to Breed an aggressive dog WHY? thats ruining the breed thats aweful i have 3 males and no marking problems as long as you neuter them i wish i had a loving friendly dog you will completely regret what you want these are the dogs that get put to sleep or end up in a shelter if they end up in the wrong hands spend alot of time with your dogs and they will love you & like to see other people theres nothing wrong with that

| I'm wondering....Are you wanting a dog that doesn't like strangers for protection reasons? One that will alert you when people come up and protect your home/family. Or are you wanting one that doesn't like strangers so that it only likes you? The way it sounds you just want a dog to like your more than your husband, but I could be wrong(I was like this, luckily Reagan prefers me over my husband). If this is the case then it might not matter so much what breed you get. I don't know if this is always the case or not but I've seen a lot of people who have two dogs, especially small indoor dogs, and the first dog prefered one person then the next dog was left to prefer the other. The first dog had almost claimed its person and would be almost jealous when the new dog when get around it(not in a violent way) so the second dog just turned to the other person. Its kinda tough to say this breed doesn't like strangers but this one does because you have different personalities it each breed. I know poodles and malteses have been mentioned as not liking strangers but we had a poodle and it didn't have a probelm with strangers and my friends maltese loves new people. Our yorkie Reagan loves new people too but when new people come over she may go meet them but in the end she always ends up sitting with me. Also as far as females choosing males I don't know about that either. Our yorkie is a female and she compeletly prefers me and we also have a bloodhound who is also a female and she also prefers me. She likes my husband more than my yorkie does but I think that's b/c since it was his dog when we went to obedience classes I made him do most of the work with her, all of it during class. My yorkie likes my husband but never lays with him or really lets him pet her or anything. I really think Reagan just thinks he's a dirty object in our house, b/c she's always trying to clean him. Have you tried training with your dog. I've found that when you take obedience classes and really work on training with you dog you form a strong bond. The dog almost learns that you are its person and it has to follow you. This might be a way to form an attachment with your pup.

| My chihuahua is a snuggler and loves to be packed around by me. She won't let anyone else pick her up but she is very friendly to strangers and loves to be petted. She is the sweetest lap dog. She is definitely a one person dog. If I try to have anybody else even walk her she refuses to move and just keeps looking for me. I've had her for 3 years (she was a rescue) and she still barks at my husband. She never bites though. My newest dog, Dylan (yorkie) hates to be held and doesn't even like to be petted. He is only interested in wrestling with my other dog (Jack Russell). The only time I get to hold my yorkie is if he is tired and ready for bed. I think that it is more personality than breed as my previous yorkie was very sweet and loved me to hold him. This is Maddie my chi and my yorkie Dylan. Maddie is a long hair but I keep her groomed in the summer. |

Chi's are great for one person, they tend to be loyal to one person. As long as you socialize them at a young age, they will be fine. Any Chi that you see that is mean was not socialized or was mistreated. With this breed it is very very important to socialize them or you can end up with one mean dog!! Papillons are great too, a little pricey though, just like the cavaliers.

| I've pretty much given up on the WHY of any Yorkie behavior. So much of the time, I just know I'm reading into Bailey's behavior what I want the "thought" behind it to be. That said, I think there are a lot of very small things that combine to effect a Yorkie's behavior. One area where I think I DID find an answer (at least a partial one), was this area of preference for one family member over another. My wife said for a long time before we got Bailey that she wanted a lap dog. We got Bailey, and much of the time that we were together she was in MY lap. After Kathie commented on this a time or two, I told her I thought I had the answer - and it was very simple. It was a matter of how we sit. When my wife sits on the sofa, she sits with her legs curled up on the sofa. Not on the floor and not stretched out. In that posture, she doesn't have a lap for Bailey to lie on. Bailey has to lie on or across her thigh or hip. When I sit at my chair, I have my feel up on the hassock - stretched out straight. Bailey can lie in my lap - or at least between my legs. And she clearly has a preference. If my wife sits on the sofa with her legs stretched out, Bailey is just as likely to go to her as to me. Even then, Bailey's mood is a factor. She's more likely to go to Kathie to be patted and talked to and gently played with while she's in the lap. She's more likely to come to me to just go to sleep. Just like people, every dog is different - but the more closely we observe them and really get to know them, the more interesting our relationship with them becomes. |

| Thanks a lot for all of you ! Its gave me a lot of material to think about. Now i am searching a lot about maltese breed. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel looks great, but all that i know like strangers )) tpaxton23 your Chi is adorable. If i will by a chi, it's going to be only a long hear one, they looks much nicer to me browniesmom622 ,Hickey007 I don't want that kind of dog...that biting everything and everyone around Just one that don't like strangers.. lets say, people come to my home...he will not run to them and lick them. Just doesnt care at all about the other people. I am not looking from a toy breed to protect me, hehe. I guess i am just jealous person that want ALL attention from my dogs only for me )) |
