| Reverse sneeze sounds When your dog experiences a reverse sneeze episode does it sound as if he/she has some sort of liquid, (phlegm or mucus), in their nasal passages or throat? Bogey has had several attacks when excited since Monday and he sounds this way. He had thrown up a bit of bile Monday morning before the first attack and I was concerned he may have aspirated some of the bile. I spoke with the vet later that morning and he seemed unconcerned since his breathing was fine otherwise. Are these sounds normal? |

| When Maddie does the reverse sneezing, there is no wet sound with it...just a dry honking or snorting sound. Reverse sneezing is often confused with trachea collapse or even a cold or upper respiratory infection. Is Bogey acting pretty normal otherwise, or is he sleepy or lethargic? If he's not himself or if the sneeze episodes keep up, maybe you should take him into the vet. Let us know how he's doing! Maddie sends get well kisses!

| Both my small dogs had reverse sneezing spells. There are a little scary the first time they happen, but you soon learn that they last a minute or two and when they're over ---everything is back to normal. I used to hold my dog when it happened, but she even got used to it happening and it didn't seem to phase her at all. And - she has always gone very quickly back to breathing perfectly normally. My Bichon often does this when I first get home from work - and, it is totally because he is so excited. So - we have a minute of this - and then we go outside and play. **** I have never noticed "any wet" sound either. I would call it more of a snorting/honking type noise. If this is what your pup is experiencing - don't worry about it! |

| When i first heard Rocky doing that it sounded like he was coughing up a hairball or something or chocking and trying to get something out his throat but then i realized it was a sneeze and thankfully he was ok. |

| Jasmine, my female yorkie, was diagnosed with reverse sneeze syndrome at less than a year old and she still has episodes from time to time. It sounds like she is snorting continuously. When it gets real bad, I give her a tiny dose of benadryl which was advised by my vet. It really helps but there have only been a handful of times that I have had to resort to bendadryl in seven years. I just keep it on hand just in case. |

| My mom has a 4 lb. chihuahua that does that. It's always dry and only last 30 seconds or so. She does it when she gets excited like when someone comes over. Doesn't last long then she's back to normal. Her vet said not to worry it's normal for these small dogs.
