Both my small dogs had reverse sneezing spells. There are a little scary the first time they happen, but you soon learn that they last a minute or two and when they're over ---everything is back to normal. I used to hold my dog when it happened, but she even got used to it happening and it didn't seem to phase her at all. And - she has always gone very quickly back to breathing perfectly normally.

My Bichon often does this when I first get home from work - and, it is totally because he is so excited. So - we have a minute of this - and then we go outside and play.

**** I have never noticed "any wet" sound either. I would call it more of a snorting/honking type noise.

If this is what your pup is experiencing - don't worry about it!
