| ![]() Ladies and Gentlemen... after reading this entire thread I have realized that I own the heaviest PUREBRED yorkie on this entire site. Her name is Sasha and weighs in at 27.3 lbs..... and shes LOST weight in the past few months. The heaviest she has been that i can remember is 32.4 lbs but we put her on a diet to get her under the 30 lb. mark. She is the cutest thing I have ever seen and will be 8 years old in May. Shes been over 20 lbs since she was 4 months old. Everywhere we go people comment on how big she is and no one can believe that she is a purebred whose mom weighed 5 pounds and dad weighed 7 lbs. I don't know how to post pics up but I'll have to take some of her anyways cause I don't have any recent ones. |

| ![]() Looks a lot like my Joiee. She is 7 pounds and would have floppy ears if not trimmed. I usually let them flop but had the groomer trim them this time because they tended to flop back and it exposed her ear canal too much. I love Chewy! |

| ![]() Well those have to be a lot better than me calling Sydnee's belly tummy wummie. I mean I even do raspberries on her tummy like she is a baby and I swear I think she giggles. ![]() LuLu gets raspberries too! ![]()

The max weight for AKC standard is 7 pounds. A friend of mine has a "Yorkie" who weighs 15 pounds. Her dog has papers and came from a reputable breeder. According to her vet, her dog is a Silkie. Silkies look a lot like Yorkies, but, check out these websites: Silky Terrier vs Yorkshire Terrier | Small Dogs Paradise Flickr: Discussing Just want to make sure (Silky or Yorkie???) in Silky Terriers - not Yorkies! They are both sooooo cute! | |

| ![]() I think people often forget or do not know the origins of the breed. The Yorkshire Terrier was developed near the township of Yorkshire, England, on the British Islands. Prior to their becoming house pets, they were used as ratters in the coal mines and mills of the area. During this time the average Yorkshire Terrier weighed around 15 pounds, (about twice the body weight of today's Yorkie). Yorkies larger than 7 pounds really isn't unusual being that the larger size is still in the gene pool. My Little Man weighed just under 10 pounds a couple weeks ago at age 2. His Mom is 6 pounds and his Dad just under 4 pounds. ![]() |
