| Hello, I'm new I am planning to get a yorkie within the next year or so. I have been reading this forum little by little. I have a question for you (this may sound weird) but tell me what you might not read about a yorkie (Bad). Horrible matting, etc... What's good about them? What books should I be reading and who has good Yorkies around the Ohio? Indiana area? I won't be getting one this summer as I currently have my hands full so If anyone knows of any good breedings coming up later this year or next year please let me know. I will be getting a female though and I have heard to get on lists for females early as the females go quickly. |

| Hi Cindy and welcome to yorkietalk! Therre are alot of great things about yorkies. They are small you can take them places with you. They are very affectionate cuddlers. They are non shedding so they are good for people with allergies. They all have their own individual look to them. Mostly they are the cutest dog there is in my opinion. Some negative things might be that some are barkers, Some can be a little hyper although mine arent, sometimes if you get a cotton coat one you can have some matting but not with a silk coat. Just make sure both of the parents of the dog you buy have silk coats. Good luck I dont think youll be disapointed with a yorkie.

| Everything is great about a Yorkie all the above things that were said, and the negative I would say is the barking but with consistent training and patience that can change. There are a lot of people on YT that are from the Indiana and Ohio area. Welcome and you can learn a ton from YT

| Welcome to YT and I applaud you for getting to know everything you can BEFORE you get your Yorkie!! Good things about Yorkies are so numerous, I can't even begin to name them, although you probably already know alot of them by reading through the posts. My dogs have never had any mats whatsoever, but they both have silky coats and that has alot to do with it. They get brushed at least every other day, but it's really not a huge burden. They just don't mat easily. The bad stuff..hmmm...I think the thing I'm having the most trouble with is not to spoil them rotten. Scout has the idea that he's the Protector of the House and barks at people and things outside all the time. We are trying to break him of that. Pippa is always underfoot because she wants to be right next to me all the time. You have to watch where you are going!! They also can be a bit costly in the Vet department if they have any problems. For some reason, I can't bring myself to wait things out with them, so we go to the vet pretty quickly with most things. I also have to pay for teeth cleaning twice a year under anesthesia which is about $150.00 a pop. By far the good outweighs the bad with them! THey are totally addicting.

BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | Hi Cindy and welcome to the YT family! If I had to tell you something about the yorkie, I would tell you they (most) have sweet personalities, they love to kiss you all over the face, they love to be close to you and follow you all the time. They are so affectionate, but they also don't realize there small size, I took Kloey on her walk tonight, and we passed several bigger dogs, and she just bounces right up to them like nothing, and this scares me cause one wrong move and they could take my babies head off, so I'm very cautious when I let her say hello to other dogs. On the bad side, Yorkies are hard to potty train, you have to be very consecitive with them, and they really need to be in a crate for their safety. Remember, it only looks like a cage to us! Good luck on your search, I know you will find the perfect baby girl! |

| Yes watch her with the bigger dogs. I just learned the hard way about that. My Boyfriends Rottweiler accidently (He didn't know (Nor I) that she was under him) Kicked my Maltese. The Vet thinks he stepped away as soon as He realized she was under him as He can't believe there wasn't more Damage done. We got really lucky. I literally thought she was going to die on me. Her eye swelled up and she went limp in my arms. I went to six different Vet offices before I found one open. This happened about a week ago. She is doing really well now and is almost completly healed as she did have broken blood Vessels over it. She is the reason I can't get one now. She is a baby, herself and I half a ton of stuff to teach her but I'd like a yorkie quick enough that they can grow up together if that makes sense. My Maltese hair hasn't matted but she gets dirty rather quickly and needs a bath anyhow. I know all about spoiling them. I think I have already spent about 75% of my savings on my Maltese. My Plan is to rearch now so when I am ready I will already have in my head what to ask the breeders and what to look for when buying a Yorkie. One question I have is I have seen different colored Yorkies. I have seen black and gold and I have also seen Black, Gold, and silver/blue. Can you tell what color they are going to be when they are babies or is it something you find out as they mature? |

| Coloring The all have the same coloring when born. Black/tan or black/gold. Ours looked the same while puppies, but around 5 months old, Rosie turned silver/tan while Petey never turned, he stayed black/tan. You may be able to get a clue if you see the parents. Hard to say if the parents are one of each.

When a Yorkie puppy is born, their blk with some gold, I have never seen a puppy born with silver in it, then again I have not seen that many puppies, but I do love to look at pups online. I think the silver comes at a later time, Kloey is now almost 1 and the silver is starting to pop out, but not very much, so she may never be silver. I think it depends on the pups mom and dad. But don't quote me on that LOL | |

| Hello........... Welcome to Yorkie Talk! Glad you found us! I agree with all of the above. I have one silky coat and one cotton coat. I just brush them daily, feed them holistic food, bathe them every two weeks, love them to death, spoil them rotten, play with them several (or more )times a day, love them, snuggle with them, kiss them, try and keep them safe at all cost, no collars only harnesses, and love them with all my heart............I would have hundreds if I could! I'd also be divorced! LOL! Mine are not hyper, only some barking, (normal) they are puddle pad trained, (Dinkey almost there) they wear boy clothes and I adore them! Now, all of that said, I think they are really fragile. (IMHO) You must watch where you step, they can break easily,(if they jump from high places, or get dropped) also watch pesticides on the floor and in the yard, things in and on the carpet that they can eat/chew/breath that could be harmful to them and bad germs can hit them hard. They are little, low to the floor and don't weigh much usually. I have a five pounder and a (Teapot) 8 + pounder ( hasn't been weighed lately) Gosh, I got carried away......oops! Sorry bout that Good Luck..............

| Just wanted to say HI there is so much to talk about on here it is great.... There is always good and bad points with anything.....but more good than bad with a Yorkie...they are playful, they love you to bits, they are easy to handle, they dont cost that much to feed, i have asthma, and they dont bother me at all...great house dogs... bad points.....because they are so small...i found that i baby mine....this can cause problems later....barking, sometimes a problem...but mine girl only barks when somebody comes to the house....toilet tranning, mmmm!! some are good, but i do have a bad one...my girl, great, my boy not to great...and ALWAYS remember that they are small dogs, you have to check where you are stepping....and becareful of heights, cause they have no fear...if they think that they can jump, they will.....i had one fall down the stairs and almost lost him..... But all in all, great dogs, funny dogs, will have you playing and laughing for hours.... Oh and you can put a bow in their hair....now that has to be a great point
