Mitzis Mom Thank you so much for your reply. She has been on a Lamb and Potatoe diet which I cooked for the past 10 weeks, and there was no change in her. So this is why my vet came to the conclusion that she is not food allergic. I am now feeding her Natural Balance duck and potatoe which is an all natural food, and specifically for allergies, even though she is not allergic to food as he says, but I am trying this, as my friend's dog had a bit of the same problem with her dog, and this food cleared him up. So I am trying everything possible, as the vet wants to do a skin test which can be done only after the summer. I am so worried that she will be in pain with the skin test. Would really not like to give her this test, but if I have to I will. And no she does not have yeast on her skin as she was tested for this.I have had dogs all of my life, and this is the most maddening thing I am going through with my little Lexee. I am heartsick over this. Thinking of getting another opinion, although the dermatologist I am using now is one of the best here. But sometimes two heads are better than one. Thanks again for your nice reply.

Yeast.....hummmmmm Ok...try to think of it like you would if you had yeast......I would think it would be...that she is imbalanced in some way.......yeast......is there a bath solution for people that have athletes feet???....Miconizole.....of course that is an antifungal......you may want to ask the pharmacist if there is an antifungal bath salts...... Its sounds like she is ultra sensative to something......hey, there is a book out for women......go to the book store.......it has Yeast or Sugar something.... in the title......could the dog have a blood sugar problem??? Get the book I mentioned before.....i know it is for humans.....but it may help with the Yorkie too....I may not be a food allergy but, if it is yeast.....then it has to come out true the skin....I would think......sorry....I am just thinking out loud.... I am really to think of everything I know from my years in the drug business......but, I sold for humans not animals.....

Saleswman Thank you for your reply. Is Miconizole an antifungal, or do I ask for an antifungal bath salts. She has yeast in her ears and paws only. Not on her body. She was tested for almost everything, including blood sugar and they all came back negative. I am now using Otomax, five drops in each ear for ten days. She licks it off her paws, so I stopped putting it there. Her ears are looking very red since I have been using these drops and so I am compressing them with cold cloths. You seem to know quite a lot about drugs, as this was your business. Please let me know how to use the antifungal if I can get this at my pharmacy. I so much appreciate your help, and concern. Do you think the antifungal will help? I will look into the book that you mentioned.

ok.... I sent you a long Private Message on something that I read......but, in ans to your question... Yes.....I have been in the drug business for 16 years....and I find things like this interesting. You know I am not sure if there is a antifungal that is over the counter. My guess is your Yorkie has been tested for all the big things....diabetes, cancer....etc? I will tell you, once they get out of balance, and that is what is happened....it will take a lot of time and patience to get her back to normal... one question....did you say that this has just happened recently? Out of the blue? Or after an illness where she was on a medication from the Vet? I am not quite so sure that I believe the Vet that says it is not a food allergy....but that is just my gut.........if you have kids.....when they are little...they can get thrush....it is a yeast infection in the mouth......the old way of treating it is with a purple dye treatment...genzinviolet.....painted in the mouth....it is wild actually, probably docs cringe at that product now a days.....more costly remedies now.....but, it is gotten from the bottle nipple or breast.....anywhere it is warm and moist......makes sense right? Anyway.....think of it like a detective.....keep reading.....I will too.....and maybe we will both fall upon something that explains what is happening... The best thing you can do is to be informed.....and smart when you speak with him/her.....they will know that you have researched this and that they can not just blow you off when you question their remedy. They tend to treat..."educated" patients....better....when you can question their treatment options. Stay in touch.. Shirley

One more .... The miconizole is at the pharmacy....it is a cream, but you can get it with a little steroid in it, that will cut down on the redness....but......since she licks it off....that may not be good.....but it is like athlete's feet....in humans......her paws and ears are dark and moist...the perfect place for this microorganism to breed.... Wonder if you could get booties....and put them on after the medication....until is is cured....just a thought.... What about "natural" remedies...like what people used for yeast inthe early 30-40's.. Someone may have one of those books on the Natural remedies......it is sure worth a try....

Saleswman Good morning Shirley. Cannot tell you how delighted I am that I fell onto you. You sound more knowlegable than my vet. I forgot to mention that Lexee has been on Vanectyl-P (prednisone) since May. We have been decreasing the dosage and she is now on 1/4 pill every second day. Of course this is for the itch. However I am not happy with this medication for her, so I am weaning her off it completely. I started giving her Bendedryl the past few days to take the place of the prednisone. My vet diagnosed her as having Atopic Dermatitis. OF course I have researched this endlessly via the internet, and from her symptoms and the internet, they seem to be the same. However every time I had her groomed in the past she would come home with these red ears, and the groomer would tell me about it. I used to use Surolan for her ears, where it would make her ears extremely red, so I stopped using this. Told my vet about this and he suggested Otomax, which is doing the exact same thing as the Surolan. Making her ears very red. Yes, her stomach seems to be very bloated, and I was told that she is "fat". From what she eats, she should not be fat. sorry that this message is so long, but my eyes took in everything that you sent re "yeast" and a lot of the symptoms they write about could relate also to Lexee. To daate I have spent about two thousand dollars, and am in the same place with her. Thinking of taking her for a second opinion. What do you think about this. My email address is gloriatds@videotron.ca and maybe it would be better to talk with you via this way. From my heart I cannot tell you how happy I am to have come upon a woman like you that knows what she is talking about. I am at my wits end about this and so very depressed over this. Lexee is my total love! She is only 21/2 yrs old. Sorry for making this message so long, but again thank you for your help.

Saleswman Forgot to mention, she was given a stomach scan and I was told that she has colitis, as she would get a runny stomach about once a month and I would give her Metronidazole 250mg and the mucus in her stool would go away. I am ver doubtful that she in fact has colitis. The vet gave me Tylosin to give her twice a day. I stopped this also. So you can see why I am at my wits end. Thank thank you once again. Gloria

Saleswman Hello again. No she is not a nervous dog, just the sweetest little darling. But I am now thinking that yeast is in her body. It is like a light went on in my head, as here too the symptoms sound like what Lexee has. If you can please provide me with the site that you sent, I would appreciate this, as it stopped before the end of the article and I was unable to read on. My friends also are looking into this and they sent me some things which also relate to my dog. So thank you for sending me the site and pls if you can, send me the address of the site. Thanks again for being so wonderful.

Detective work.....LOL Gloria.....what I did was....on Yahoo Search......I put in "Yeast Dogs" That allowed me to view many articles.......I have found that just a few words similar to what your topic is, will bring up tons of info. I love the search....and I am more than happy to continue to play "detective" for you. I do believe that it is a yeast issue.....that is just snowballing.....not sure how it started though is the question. But, try searching the way I did.....and I will to...to try and "recreate" that article. If I find it again....I will send it to you./ I appreciate your nice comments, but I surely don't deserve them......I just find an interest in helping nice people....and hopefully I don't over step my bounds....and I do see you as a very nice person....that justs needs some help..... Hopefully, many YT posters will feel the same way, and give suggestions.....

Just thought.... I know that when antibiotics are given...yeast develops.....and it happens with antifungals too......the balance in the body is wiped out when these drugs kill the natural flora......it happens is women all the time.....esp. the ones that are very sensitive to medications. (I fit in that catagory, I know) So try this.....my husband laughs.....feed the dog yogurt for several days.....the plain kind...maybe in her food if you have too. Also, I know this is weird....try putting it on her feet....she can lick it off and I wont be a problem. It sounds just like she is "out of balance" and sensitive too.... In the mean time, I will help anyway I can..... Shirley

Saleswman Shirley, you are a godsend to me. I feel so much better since talking with you, as it seems very likely that this is Lexee's problem. I certainly have all intentions to start with the plain yogurt today, but how much of it do I give her? Probably a teaspoon. So nice that you have a husband. I lost mine three years ago to cancer, and Lexee has taken his place in my life. My children live in Thailand where they have a resort. So if ever you want to take a vacation there, it would be a heavenly thing for you to do with your husband. Check out their website which is www.lomlae.com to see the beauty of it. (p.s. promise you an exceptional rate there) Thanks again for your replies, you are wonderful. Gloria
