I will concede that not ALL Yorkies work any more. In fact MOST don't. However mine DO! And so I dislike the long tail. Yeah, I think it's cute, but not for me.

i have spoken to many vets and ALL have said it hurts.also if it didnt hurt or there wasnt anything wrong with having it done why is it nearly banned in the uk?

Please...I'm not trying to be mean...but they're vets, not dogs. They don't know 100% if it hurts. I heard that some little pups 3-5 days old sleep through the procedure.

Then again, they say circumcision on little babies doesn't hurt either, but they sure cry like heck.

if anyone should know if it hurts i would say a vet would.and as for the baby thing id say that hurts aswell. it comes down to whats seen as normal i guess,a few years ago i never saw anything wrong with docking either problely as it was just seen as normal to have it done and not normal to NOT have it done,but now in the uk its not the normal thing to have done. things change over years and so do peoples views,a few years ago dog fighting was seen as normal and now its seen as a horrible thing to do(which im glad) so maybe in a few years time docking a tail in the usa will not be the norm and people will see it how the people in the uk see it.

My Rhapsody doesn't have a cropped tail, and I think it's adorable. Another lady in our training class has a Yorkie, and his tail is cropped. She just goes on and on about how she wishes she had found a Yorkie with his tail because she thinks it's sooo cute!

Here's a couple pictures. First one is with her sitting down and the tail behind her. The second is right after she came home, and you can see her tail curling over her back!

To be perfectly honest, I think they'd look cute even if they had a tail...docked or undocked....growing from their head! They're cute no matter how you serve em up!

My baby has a lovely natural tail and looks so cute whenn she wags it! don't get it cropped now--it is far too late. Why do you want to,when they look so good with their tail!

Both of mine are cropped.....I have seen Yorkies with un-cropped tails, they are rather long and stringy looking not very attractive. I personally prefer them to be cropped and no offense to others, but I want mine to be as close to the AKC. standard as possible and that's what it calls for?

I'm sure there is also a purpose for them to be croppped? Besides just for looks? Anyway all Yorkies are cute with or without tales. I'm sure to have it done right away after they are born is the optimum time to do it, any time after that I believe would be very painful! But I do think it is kind of un-fair of the "Breeder" not to consult you (if it was possible based on the situation?)
as to your own preference? So you would have a choice in the matter? At this point in time/age I would think it is too late anyway?

The only way a vet will dock a tail in the UK is if there is an injury, or if the dog is a working dog. When I worked at a clinic there were so many people who would attempt to do it themselves, and end up seriously injuring their pups, or leaving them with no tail at all. Most decided that it would be painless if done at a few days old, which is totally disgusting and ridiculous.

(sorry if i have upset anyone, but it is something i feel strongly about)

I totally agree .... Toto has an AKC "nub"!! We just love the little thing ... it seems to wag twice as fast!!

Love Yorkie Natural Tail-we got Sunny from a UK Breeder...against the law to Dock there...Sunny's tail was beautiful! We are getting another Yorkie and
will only get a natural tail...I think it is an important part of their
personality...I'm going to upload a pic when i figure out how to do it!!
