Is your Yorkies Tail Cropped or Natural The new baby I'm getting has a long tail. The breeder didn't want to have them cropped because she personally likes how they look long. Is it too late to get her cropped now, she is 13 weeks old  I don't want to cause her too much pain though, I'm not sure how they do it. |

Cropped Dezi's tail is cropped. But I have seen other yorkies with a natural tail and they look very cute! |

when its done its usually when the pup is a few days old. at 13 weeks, i'm sure it'll hurt. bunjee's tail was cropped at the breeder's. |

Um, technically you can still get it docked, it the dog is put under anesthesia and it is treated as an operation. I personally say leave it unless you are just dead set on it being docked. |

My yorkies tail is docked and I took all the pups she had to the vet at 3 days to dock their tails too. I like the docked tails since that is in the breed standard. |

At this point, I wouldn't get it done. If it's to be done it should be 3-5 days after birth. It would be too painful for the pup now. |

My girl's tail is not docked and I love it! My first yorkie's tail was. I just love to watch Mayzie's tail wag. After having both, I prefer the non-docked. |

Oscar's tail is docked. As far as docking your pup's tail, it is just your preference. I had an American Bulldog that developed a kink in his tail. He was to be used for show so we opted to dock it when he was 7 months old. He never acted like it bothered him either. But bulldogs may handle pain a lot different than yorkies. Talk to your vet...they should know more about it. If you get the pup spayed or neutered, that would be a good time to dock the tail and also pull any baby teeth that have not come out on thier own. Congrats on getting your new pup...there is nothing better than a yorkie baby!!! Tail or not!!! |

My girls tails are both docked! If I were you I would just leave it full! It would be too painful for the poor baby! And the long tails are cute too. |

My Pippa's tail is docked! |

My Maggie Mae's tail is docked, but I have a neighbor who's yorkie mix has a long tail, :p and it is very cute. |

All of mine are docked.. |

My girls' tails are docked but they were done by the breeder at 3-5 days...at this point, it seems like it would be too painful! I think a full tail would be so much fun and very different, it would give your little one some personality!! |

JUST "DOCK IT". :) (just "do it" spoof) My little girl is coming in from Hungary soon. Her tail is NOT docked. I will be docking it for sure, however due to the neccessity of anesthesia and the (minor) pain involved I am going to wait until she's closer to around 10 months to do it. The reason being is that after around 3 days of birth it's typically done, after that they have to weigh enough to even undergo the anesthesia. Why put your dog under immediately after putting on the appropriate amount of growth and weight only to maybe have to turn around and do it again to have his/her desiduous teeth removed?? Yeah, so I'm just going to wait and see if she'll need any teeth pulled and if so do it then. If not, at least she'll be a bit older and theoretically safer to be put under. That's my opinion. Oh, and yes I will be showing this dog and while I could campaign her w/ a full tail, my personal preference is not to! |

ps, I've had tails docked at an older age before w/ great success and while I prefer to have it done shortly after birth that isn't always a possibility. My experience is that we humans would like to think that it causes a great amount of pain to loose a limb like that and from what I've seen it causes us a great deal more pain than it does the dog. You hear horror stories of "phantom" pain and so on and while I'm sure those dogs exist I have yet to come into contact w/ one. More often than not it heals quite quickly and the dogs are no worse for the wear. More spays are more painful than docking of a tail at an older age IMO! |
