| ![]() We have a male yorkie who is 3 years old, and we did not want to neuter him, so we bought a girl puppy home yesterday as a possible future "wife". At first he was stand-offish and shy, but today he made a soft growl at her. I am concerned about thier compatability. She wnts to play with him, but he dous not want have anything to de with her yet. We have been giving him extra attention, and love in this time of change. I want to know if there is anything we can do to help the situation. -Chris |

| ![]() I would just play with them together and encourage them to be together. They will get used to each other in no time. I have the opposite problem. My older pup wants to play so bad with my other new puppy. He can be a little rough. We have had to get after him and now he is more gentle. They just take time to get used to one another.

| time may be the key Thanks, I hope so, I want them to really get along. I'll try playing with them together. He's hiding right now, so I'll have to go find him. Thanks, |

| ![]() We just got a little girl and we already have a 7 month old boy. No intentions of mating, just want them to have someone to play with. I haven't quite had the same problems as you. At first I was worried about them playing too rough and Hercules was trying to hump Athena. This was only out of a show of dominance, but still worried me. I would try to play with them together as much as possible. But if you aren't able to watch them, then maybe keep them separated so the girl doesn't irritate the boy. Since he seems stand-offish. Good luck!

| ![]() Chris, Be careful with your new Yorkie... give this site a look http://www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/Dumm...e/id-2589.html I also read somewhere that their are two different disposition of Yorkies and that you shouldn't mix the two. I will see if i can find that again. I also read somewhere quote Yorkies are terriers and will fight til the death. I introduce my new puppies to my 3 year old yorkie and she started acting like a big puppy again with the new puppies. Good luck, Judy |

| ![]() Chris, I think I would let your older dog hide if he wants to. Don't force him to come out and play with the new puppy. However, if he choose to play with the puppy, you should praise him. When I brought home a puppy it took my male yorkie 3 months before he would ever approach the puppy and 1 year before he was comfortable enough to play with her. Hang-in there! |

| ![]() Chris, I have a male he's 1 yr. and 3 months his name is Artie. My 8 wk. old females name is Abigail. I've only had her for a week today. When we went to the Breeder to pick her out, we took Artie, he played with the Mother, all the puppies (3) and an older 8 yr. old male. We stayed for an hour talking and playing, the female we chose was the one that kept playing with him. So when we came back a few days later Artie was already familiar with their home. The first night and day they went through their own power struggle. I did not get involved I let them work it out themselves on their own time table, but I did give my older male "Private space" so when he wanted to have his own space he could get away from her. I did not force him to be with her when he didn't feel like it. I made him responsible for her I trained him to watch her so now they follow each other around they play until they are tired and then they sleep together. If they are ever going to mate or even live in the same home they have to get along! I think they will come around in time. You just have to watch, wait and see? Otherwise I suggest you get them neutered and spayed? And just have them there in their own separate spaces....it sounds territoial to me. Good Luck trying ![]() |

| ![]() I have a 6 month old neutered male and I just brought home a 4 month old little girl. My male is a big kid and loves to play non-stop. he was a little rough with her at first and he is bigger than she is so I had to rescue her a few times when she yelped. When this happended I would make sure they had a tug of war toy or one where both could have part of it in their mouth. The other thing I would do is play fetch and throw one toy a long way in one direction first for the male and then another toy a short distance in the other direction for the little girl to run after. After a little over a week they are best friends. She seems to be able to tell him when he gets too rough and they do pretty well. My westie and my poodle did better acclimating to the little girl than they did to the male. I think they were used to "new" puppies after he came and they accepted her more quickly, but he is more annoying than she is!! ![]() |
