We just got a little girl and we already have a 7 month old boy. No intentions of mating, just want them to have someone to play with.
I haven't quite had the same problems as you. At first I was worried about them playing too rough and Hercules was trying to hump Athena. This was only out of a show of dominance, but still worried me.
I would try to play with them together as much as possible. But if you aren't able to watch them, then maybe keep them separated so the girl doesn't irritate the boy. Since he seems stand-offish.
