| First timer...I need help! Hey guys! My boyfriend bought me a 5 month old yorkie yesterday, and this is my first time really owning a dog. I had a dog before, but I never took care of him because I hated him -- my siblings loved him and took care of him. However, this time..I'm taking full responsibility for Coco(my dog) and I'm kind of having some trouble. How do you "play" with him? How do you know when to take him to his pee pee pad? uhggg i don't knowww? |

| At 5 months old he should have some kind of thoughs as to where to pee and poop. Do you have wee wee pads? As far as playing you will figure it out, buy him some stuffed toys and start playing!! Buy yourself a crate (cage) for when your not home and at night. Buy it big enough for him to walk around in but not too big as he won't hold and will pee and poop in the corner. Take a deep breath and have fun! There is a lot of valuable information on this site just do a search for training and stuff! Enjoy! Puppies can be so much fun!! Oh and PS Welcome!!

| The pee pads I dont like, only becasue I dont know how to make them go on it......lol I would tell you that you should take him outside every 2 to 3 hours. Make sure that you take him out when he gets up from naps, or just got a drink. Kind of like a baby. The play thing is all up to the puppy. I have one that loves to paly with other dogs and then one that will paly with people. I have two kids that love to paly with the puppies, so that is something to think about. Do you have toys that he will play with?? If not then find one that is right one. Some like the ones that make a "sweek" sound and some dont like them as much. Now if you are going to take on the responsibility of this dog and have others in the house that will not. Then the dog might be a mommys baby, and not like or do the same with them as the puppy will do with you. I hope that this helps!!!!!!!! If you need more info then I am sure that someone will help you out.

1. Use a harness, not a collar. Yorkies have delicate necks. 2. Say "no," but don't be too forceful when he has accidents in the house. Instead, put him on his pad (or outside, whichever you prefer), and praise, praise, praise whenever he goes where he's supposed to. He will probably walk in circles or pace when he needs to go. 3. Feed him a high-quality dog food. Search for "food" on this site and read what others have said. But if you decide to switch diets, do so slowly. 5 percent new food, 95 percent old each week. 4. Yorkies have a tendency to be goats and eat things they're not supposed to. Watch his chewing habits closely and don't let him swallow bad stuff. Kongs, nylabones and other hard toys are best for dogs that chew and swallow. 5. Good luck, and post pictures!

| THe only thing Coco eats is his little bone nuggets -- his treats. The nibblets that his former owner gave me, he doesn't eat those. He doesn't want to drink the water either. Coco dranks and ate a lot while I was over at his ex-owner's house before we took him. Maybe he's trying to get used to the new environment?? Uhy, I don't know. It's a lot harder than I thought. |

| I would say, if you can leave the food and water out so he knows were to find it. Dont give him any treats, tell he eats his own feed. I will only give my girls treats in one week maybe 1 to 2 times. If I give them treats all the time then they will not eat there own food. Plus they are better then the food that they eat, would you eat the food too. NO!!!!!! It might take time, You have to think about what he or she did and had when he lived with the breeder, he might have had other dogs and do puppies love other dogs. Plus cats!!!! I think that a smell has to do with things too. I know the puppies that I sold, when they went with the new owner it took about 1 week to get adjusted to you and your smell, Plus the BIG house that he gets to play in. Then you have to think about the smell that you have outside. Just let time go by and you will never be without your baby......

| I live in an apartment with my boyfriend, and I have a house in jersey -- where my mom and siblings live. The house in jersey is pretty big, only compared to this apartment, ya know? On the way home last night, Coco was in his cage, and he threw up in the cage. I don't think I can bring him out yet. He gets too nervous and/or motion sickness. Oh, and he's constantly chewing on something, and I know it's not his food. That's scaring/worrying me too! sheeshhh. |

| I don't hate animals, I just didn't like that dog. He and I were not compatible. That maltese/poodle didn't listen to anyone but himself. My cousin raised him, and spoiled him before she gave him to me. Anyway, that isn't the point. It's not as easy for everyone to take care of a dog, as it could've been and is for you. Cut me some slack here -- I'm new with this. |

| It's great that you are a new dog owner and trying to do your best to raise your puppy. I would suggest to search this site and the web for information about dogs,or go to the library to get out dome books. Stay in touch with his former owner for advice as to the toileting /feeding times/methods he is used to. Is he vacinated? If so you can take him out for walks, but remember to take a poop bag with you. Play is great-we have a squeaky newspaper my pup loves to fetch with,a stuffed, squeaky rat-- Yorkies were ratters--a small ball and she loves dried pigs ears to chew on. Praise. praise. praise works wonders and helps him bond with you. How about some puppy obedience classes to give you tips and help you to meet some other dog owners.Ask doggie friends for advice and outgrown equipment. Dog proof your appartment-pick up anything you do not want chewed and offer chew toys. Crates and /or puupy pens are great for when you are not home or gate off your kitchen. Enjoy and soon you will wonder how you managed without your furbaby! |
