| You really shouldnt try to rescue in this situation. The more people who purchase from Mills the more they stay in business and get more pupps. We consumers are the ones that can put the Mills out of business and should by not purchasing from them.

| Somehow it isn't fair to catagorize ALL Amish who breed dogs as dastardly puppymillers. I have been to the websites and seen the reports and what I saw was horrid, but I also know that the media likes to sensationalize. I have also been, in person, to breeders who came very highly recommended that were not Amish and fit the classification as Millers. From my point of view a 2 1/2 hour drive isn't very far to check out a prospective addition to a breeding program. I would go and check out the situation for myself armed with a digital camera. That way, if you found that it WAS a puppy mill, you could take pics, document the situation and report them to the authorities. I don't have any personal experience with the Amish in respect to dogs, but I do business with several Amish folk in regards to purchasing harnesses, and other equipment for my miniature horses. The folks I have had contact with have all been respectful, honest and hardworking. btw..... WELCOME ..... AND GOOD LUCK IN YOUR SEARCH! |

| btw ..... many of the things we believe about the Amish are myth. Electricity is often used in their businesses and it is not uncommon to find computers, telephones and cars used as it relates to their business. Each community is "goverened" by a group of elders, and what one group allows another group may not. I do realize that the philosophy of the Amish is very much different from the "english" which is what they commonly refer to non-Amish folk. They regard animals in a much different light than the rest of us. What needs to happen is that every time we have an opportunity to DOCUMENT a puppy miller in person, we should take advantage of that opportunity and report then to the authorities. |

Just a quik update on my littlest new baby, he sounds like a puppy that has emphysema. I worry that he is going to choke on the thick sounding mucus he is trying to cough up. It is just horrible to witness this gagging, and I really fear that he is going to hurt the throat/trachea and have more problems on down the road from that. Ho Hum......we are still plugging along, using a vaporizer now also, it seems to have brought this mucus more into play..??? We go back to the doctor Tuesday morning. He wants to perhaps give my babies more vacinations because he doesn't trust what the breeder/broker recorded, as far as those ar concerned. I am not at all sure what to think of that , have you ever heard of this? A vet wanting to just re-do all those shots? Any info you can send my way is appreciated. I think you are one person on the site that knows 'your stuff'. Thank you , again for all the posts and wealth of info you give .....out of love!

| Awhile ago I posted an article on here all about the Buckeye Dog Auction, aka- Holmes County Amish Flea Market. ( can't find it, if someone can, post it here) it is quite interesting, as to how they think,, the main quote the owner of the head guy that runs the Auction said was.. 9 Which is the main reason I wrote my letter to the paper) " The thing that they understand the least is that these kennel dogs were born and raised in a kennel enviroment. They have never been a house pet, so it's not stressful for them to be CONFINED among 20 others and be used as breeding stock." Ervin Raber , co-founder of Buckeye Dog Auction who also runs a LArge kennel." Ok, so that in itself tells you how they VALUE these dogs not as pets or loveds animals but as BREEDING STOCK for $$$$$

| Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Most people who responded here did say that not ALL Amish Breeders are are puppy mills....but I'm betting MOST of them are just because of their views on animals. it's just a fact that the Amish are notorious for running Mill Type operations...and saying there are one or two in the country that aren't mills really isn't very comforting. |

| WEll I couldn't keep out of this one... I want to SCREAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM at most staying AMISH this and AMISH that when they only know what they have read or heard or whatever. I'm SURROUNDED by AMISH and Puppymils and I hate to burst everyones bubble but not every Amish person who has dogs is a PUPPYMILLER. Are MANY of them??? YES, But That doesn't mean you should slander each and every Amish person who has a DOG....NO. believe me if you come across a amish mill if you go to visit you will know it. WHY... because they don't HIDE IT!!!! You know who hides it??? The NON- Amish Puppymillers. These are the people who sell you a dog and you have NO IDEA it was raised HORRIBLY from POOR twisted diseased parents. They all have there ways and l have seen most ALL of them. Right up the road from me we have an Amish family who raises Labs and they are some of the SWEETEST labs I have ever come across. Well mannered and very healthy. The AMISH family has 2 bitches and 1 stud and they live pretty darn good . They have a shed barn type house with heated area and fans and a big run. And it was very clean and the dogs looked very nice. And KNOW WHAT .. they had no idea I was coming!!!!!!. No what they charged me. $100 for an AKC lab with vet papers and all shots and records for the parents and a nice puppy package and some stuffed animals the pup was used to. They had been asking $250 but the weather had snapped cold and they said they just wanted the labs to have good homes before the snow came. that was last year and the dog is still halethy and happy with a friend of mine that I had gotten the dog for. I also want to say the one of the reasons you always get a recording when you call Amish people is alot of them DO NOT HAVE PHONES. They will usually have a non Amish friend or a local small business one of the group has, to take messages for them. most of the sects will allow phone usage for business purposes and they will call you back in reference to buying somethgn they make or raise or sell. Anyway... I had to vent and while YES there are ALOT of AMISH DOG BREEDERS WHO ARE MILLERS Please sTop MAKING GENERAL STATEMENTS ABOUT A PERSON WHO YOU DO NOT KNOW!!!!! THERE ARE MANY OTHER RACES AND RELIGIONS WE WOULD NOT DARE DO THIS TOO ON THIS BOARD AND i DO NOT SEE WHY IT IS ok TO DO IT TO THE AMISH RELIGION . i ALSO WANT TO CLOSE IN SAYING THEY ARE DIVIDED IN TO THE SECTS AS STATED AND SOME ALLOW DIFFERENT THINGS WHILE OTHERS DO not ALLOW THINGS THAT IS WHY YOU SEE SOME MORE MODERNIZED AND SOME ARE OF THE old ORDER.

| I have been to a dog auction in Amish Country in Berlin but never dealt with an individual. I would never buy from them. you can go here and read an article about the auction.. www.timesreportercom.printable.php?ID=47757 |

| The general consensus seems to indicate that you need to go elsewhere. There are a number of good breeders in MI.,OH.,IN.,ILL., and PA. that all belong to YT. I would contact some of them for help with finding a female.

The Amish that live around me do not have phones in their homes. The phones are outside in like a little phone both or else in a barn on one of the Amish folks property. When I was at the Buckeye Auction in Berlin, Ohio ( read otehr threads and it explains why I was there in the first place ) there was people upstairs on the main floor before you go downstairs to the auction and they had flyers going around that they would list your pups on the internet for a fee.......... UNREAL I also buy things from the Amish and some of them are very nice, but I DO NOT agree with these auctions and with the Amish who raises dogs and treats them horrible.
