Question??? Need your advice with age/size Hi! As you know, we got our little "Izzy" this week. Everything has been great! She's been sleeping all night in her crate and hasn't had an accident in there all night. And, she's been doing great going outside and "pottying." Only 2 accidents inside so far. My only concern is this: The breeder we got her from told us she was 12 weeks old and weighed 2 lbs. Said that she didn't expect her to be more than 4 lbs. Said the Mom weighed 6.5 lbs and the Dad weighed 4 lbs. Her papers state that she was born Oct 9, 2005. She was 1 of 6 puppies. The breeder had Izzy and 3 males left. All the males were at least 1 lb. larger than Izzy. I took her to the vet last night for a check-up (everything was great - clean bill of health!) but, he said based on her teeth, he did not agree with her age of 15 weeks based on the date she was born. He said she was only 12 weeks. She weighed 2.5 pounds last night. He also said he thought she would weigh under 10 lbs. I'm just wondering now if the breeder possibly lied to me about her age and the size she'll be. I love her regardless, but I would just like to know her actual birthday and actual age. Do any of you have any ideas or could you tell me how old your dog was at this age and how much they weigh now??? Just looking for some answers - Sorry this is sooo long! Ashley

Even if she is 12 weeks right now, according to formula for estimating weight, she'll only be 5 lbs or so (although this isn't a guarentee.) I really hope that your breeder wasn't dishonest. If so, I would definitely confront her. We have quite a few really great breeders on here, so hopefully someone can help you with this.

Hmmm.... Was the puppy registered? My little guy was 1# 7oz at 16 weeks. Now at 20 weeks he weighs 2# 4oz. So I'm not sure whats going to happen. I never thought about the breeder lying. But I was assuming that my guy would be anywhere from 4 to 7 lbs.

Yes, she's registered - I certainly hope the breeder didn't lie to me. I just found the situation strange. Thanks for letting me know your pups size/age.

I really laugh when a vet try to determine the age of a puppy by looking at his or her teeth . Most all vets go overboard with a puppy weight . The first time I went to the vet clinic with Gazou , he told me that he will be 9 pounds . Gazou is a year old and weight 3 pounds 10 ounces .

Lovin' 2 Girls Donating Member | Hi Well, I'm glad this came up. We just got our Abigail last Sunday. She is just too adorable! But, then...aren't they ALL? lol Now, I was so anxious to get a yorkie pup (something I've wanted for years), I didn't waste any time when I found this litter in the paper. Nearby. The baby would not have to be shipped. I didn't want a teeny Yorkie - but, I'm wondering how big Abbie will get, since at 8wks, she's already 2lbs.? The breeder seemed very sincere, and cares about her pups (raises them in the house, wants to visit after the sale, and was free to let us examine the dam and sire). We were told that the sire is 8lbs, and dam is "a little over" 9lbs. I held both adults, and they seemed larger than that? Both parents are AKC registered. Mind you - Abbie is already wrapped around our hearts. I don't regret the purchase - just curious about what to really expect in size. Thanks in advance for any info/advice.

I have to agree with the comment about the teeth.. I read on the board that I should start brushing my little guy's teeth. Well when I tried I couldn't believe how tiny his teeth are. I mean REALLY TINY!

my vet said 10 lbs too my vet said rocky would be 10 pounds since he weighed 3 lbs at 12 weeks. well he is 6 1/2 months old and is 4 lbs 2 oz. i don't think he'll ever be over 5. in 3 1/2 months he's only gained 1 lb 2 oz.

| If the Vet is going by the teeth, I would go by the papers. Why would the Breeder give you the wrong date? hmmmmm As far as size, you can never really tell, They come in all sizes, even if the parents are small I've seen 10 pound Yorkies with 4-6 pound parents. so you really don't know, but what you do know is they all have really big hearts.

I think that's what I'll do - Just go by the Oct 9, 2005 date on her papers. I don't see why she would have any reason to lie about her birth date, and the vet is just going on something he thinks a/b her teeth. Thanks so much for all the responses - I feel better about it. My little Izzy is such a doll baby! Can't wait to get some pics of her posted!

She's such a snuggle-bunny. When I talk to her: "You just too silly - go away - I don't talk to silly girls. Waggin' that bum like you think you got tail - go away", she just wriggles all over. lol

Hi Ashley and Izzy!!! I'm so excited for you and your new puppy. Raisin was born on the exact same day!!! At 12 weeks old, she weighed 2.4 lbs and the breeder said she would probably weigh just over 5 lbs. I'm not too sure how big she'll get. If she keeps growing at the rate she has been, seems like she'll be 10+ pounds. Based on both the breeder approximations, i would probably believe the breeder, especially since she knows more about the lineage. But from what I've read they have growth spurts, so you can't always tell. Also now at almost 16 weeks, she seems to have started her teething already(don't know if that's too young), but she's a little more finicky with her food, and has been chewing on her toys constantly. Hope to hear more about Izzy as he goes through the ages and stages at the same time as Raisin

Same Birthday How sweet...They have the same Birthday We'll definetly have to keep in touch and see how they both are doing. It'll be great to have someone to talk to with a Yorkie the same age - I know I'm gonna have plenty of questions!
