| Cut the Topknot or Not? Ok YT let's hear the pros and cons. Should I cut the topknot off? Deuce has had a topknot for 11 years. I also grew out his muzzle. I groom him daily and sometimes more. But I think it may be time for a change. Let me tell you what prompted my thoughts along these lines. Over the past 3 years I grew my own hair after having it short for about 30 years. First I quit coloring it and let it go gray and then I just grew it since I'm fortunate enough to have enough to grow. Well now I can wear a high pony but it feels so good when I let it down. I began to wonder if Deuce feels the same way when I take his topknot down and massage his head. I think he does as he closes his eyes and just relaxes. Soooo I'm thinking of giving him a rounded head and clipping the bridge of his nose to enhance his eyes. I've also found with less hair on the nose makes it easier to clean the eye boogers. Since his cataract surgery about a third of his head is done and I must say it looks cute. I do my own grooming (shaving) so I've been watching videos to get up the nerve to actually cut his head. I sure wish I knew someone who does a short head so I could watch before I cut it and have someone coach me. So what do you think? Do it or not (knot)?

| Hair always grows back. It could take 2 years to get a nice full top knot. When I adopted Cody he had short hair. I could never keep a top knot on any of my girls, now that I had just one dog I wanted him to have one. His body hair grows fast, I thought his hair on his head would to, but found for the length I wanted it took 2 years. Yorkies look cute with or with top knots, give it a shot, hair always grows back.

| I have gone without a topknot for Emma but I missed it plus people thought she was a boy without it. So I have had a male yorkie and I never had a topknot for him . So I guess I've gender normed my yorkies without realizing it. With Emma she loves when I take the topknot out and do a massage yet she can't see when it's just loose. So when it's time to put it back in, she comes running. I think Deuce is so handsome and will be either way. If you're feeling he could use a break, go for it bc it can always grow back.

| I go to the same groomer, but still, every single time, I tell her to go ahead and trim Piper (give her little caprice-like cut on her legs) and neaten her up all over. EXCEPT PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH THE HAIR ON HER HEAD! I like it long and tossel-y and Piper-y. |

| Either way. I love top knots but had Dixie's cut off because Jazzy took out her band every single day, poor girl.

| LOL, that's the reason why my girls could never have top knots, now that I have one lil boy, he sports a pony tail.

| Oh my. Thanks everyone. I'm still on the fence about this. I'm gonna do a photo shoot so at leas I have before pictures. His topknot right now looks week since I cut it while he was wearing the cone and went a bit too short. His eye has healed perfectly and he's seeing great. I've been able to clean the debris around it very well and actually that's because the hair around it has been cut. I've never used the shaver near his eyes before. I used to trim my poodles faces but that was more than 40 years ago. Ugghhhh such a dilemma. Isn't there a groomer coach on this forum????

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I don't know about groomer coach on this forum yeah or Nay. I use blunt nose scissors on Razzle nose. I keep the blades honed/sharp. I was quite nervous at first, but practice helped to over come. I like a neat paw. Nails trimmed and hair between the pads kept short. I use a humans male moustache trimmer for that. As someone said hair grows back. After razz's show days were done I cut the topknot off. I love seeing his ever expressive eye!s.

| Do you have any close-up photos of his face? Eyes and bridge of nose. I would also like to see the back of his head. I'm wondering about the transition from the top of the head to the neck. I'm probably making too much of this but it's scary.
