How true. Birds of prey predate the human race and were here first before any of us arrived here. Slowly their natural habitats are being raided by builders to make humans more land to develop and build homes, businesses on and the large birds and animals are driven out of their homeland of eons. As they see dogs as a resource walking and with their natural hunting habitat having been taken from them, often are driven by hunger or need for the hide to line a nest and seek to kill our four-footed friends for their meat and hides, friends that perhaps now live and play on what was their species' old hunting grounds. You can't help but understand they have needs, too, and their plight is real.

Still, not one of us would ever, without a desperate, deadly fight, ever allow one to hurt, disable/kill or fly away with our Yorkie to an unthinkabe fate to serve that plight!

Well when your dog is being attacked by any other animal you do what you have to, to save your dog period!

I believe where we live we can shoot coyotes and foxes if they are harming animals on your property. Not sure about hawks. Eagles are protected no matter where you are. My aunt had to kill a fox that ate one of her ducks and tried to kill several others. Even as an animal lover I would have no issue hurting or killing something attacking my pups.

Hawks, Eagles, Falcons, Owls, are all protected prey birds in every state of the USA, you cannot kill them or harm them.
As for 4 legged predators, you have to check your states laws.

My husband and I decided to take our boys around the cul de sac which lies along a portion of the shoreline of the neighborhood retention pond this morning. We did not see it upon approaching, but we startled one of the smaller (3 ft) gators which live there as he was sunning on the shore. When he jumped into the pond, the large splash immediately attracted Gus' attention. If he was not on a leash (he has NEVER not been off leash), I swear he would have gone right to the edge to explore...the gator turned around to look at him a few feet from the edge. Nothing like a game of stare down between a young alligator and a fearless 5 pound yorkie!

OMG, this is weird lol, earlier today I was resurching if alligators are a protected species. Answer, if one is on your property and your pet will be attacked, it's ok to kill it, but off your property you can be fined.

Thank GOD you are wise and keep your pups on leash. These pups are too much lol, staring down a gator lol. Cody wanted to take on a black bear last year, absolutely fearless lol.

I'm going to do my best to stop by whatever means necessary anything that tries to kill my little one and worry about the consequences later.
