| Help! 😂 My baby Maxwell passed away. He was 7 years old. I have a new baby and I don't know if I've forgotten, but he never wants to be put down! I do take him to work at my ALF to socialize and give the residents something to look forward to. However, at night he wants me to hold him to sleep! I am EXHAUSTED. Anyone else struggling with this separation?

| Ditto to msg from Matese. Is he a rescue, just separated from his siblings or just needy. My Gidget follows me everywhere during the day. She can be asleep in her bed in the living room and wake up when I get off the sofa and walk into another room. When it's time to go to bed (she sleeps with me), she'll start spinning around and heading to the bedroom. If I say "It's night night time" she heads for the bedroom and waits for me to follow her. What personalities they have! All are so different but so much the same. |

| You really kinda have to nip this in the butt now before it becomes bigger issues. My aunt did not so now her dog cries and screams if she can't pick her up. Callie used to want to be picked up all the time too especially during storms and it seems to have made her more fearful of them. I am a fan of putting puppies at night in their crate where they can see you at least until they are potty trained and are not where they will get into things that could really hurt them. Yes it can be miserable the first 2 weeks. Its very important though that a dog be crate trained so when they are at the vet for getting fixed or tests they are used to the crate as encase of emergency's. You can also build confidence by training like right now sit, stay, lay down and move to bigger tricks as they get older.

| So sorry for your loss of Maxwell! I am happy to hear that you opened your heart to a new baby. They never replace our beloved companions, but can make coping with their loss easier to bear. All of our three wanted constant holding when they were babies, and still sleep with us every night. Our only saving grace was that as they grew older, the little ones wanted to be playing with their "big brother(s)". They spend most of their days cuddling and playing together with us. We specifically wanted two (I know...we ended up with three!) so that they would have a buddy when we are away from home. I know that this solution is not practical for everyone, but it has worked for us over the years.

| Yes, I too, am wondering how old he is. Might be too young to leave his sibs and be alone. I don’t create, but hope you find your solution such as maybe taking his bed with you when you got to work - my dog goes to work with me every day and she has a bed in each office I am in so she can rest.

| That would be your problem. They are supposed to stay with their moms and siblings until 12 weeks. When taken to early they can have serious separation anxiety. My 3 year old Joey had very bad separation anxiety and I was his 3rd home at 9 weeks old. He still has it but not as bad. You need to be extremely careful where you take this pup until they have all of their shots or they could end up with parvo which could be deadly.

| And there's your reason. As Lovetodream has stated, that puppy was let go way to soon, staying with mom and litter mates until 12 weeks old is so important, they snuggle with the momma and litter mates, gain confidence and makes transitioning to new humans easier. The deed is done, now you have to take on the role of the momma and snuggling comes with that job. You can try buying big plush dog safe teddy bears they sell them at PetSupplies, PetSmart, PetCo, something he can snuggle with and give him comfort. Did you take your baby to your vet for a wellness check when you got him. Did your vet tell you no interaction with strangers, no outdoors until he has had all his shots which is usually at 5 / 5 1/2 moths old. You do not have to socialize a puppy when they are 9 weeks old, you are putting your puppy at risk of catching Parvo which can be fatal with puppies.
