Default Heat wave

So is everyone one surviving this heat? It has been bad here. The above ground pool we have is 95 degrees . We normally keep our house at 69 degrees but with all the heat and even all the ceiling fans on it’s staying at 75 degrees in the house. I can tell it’s supper hot when Joey who never gets hot is laid out on his side stretched all out. It’s been 99 degrees for like 2 days and still high 90’s 2 days before that!

It's been mid 90's here on the mountain, AC and ceiling fans getting a work out. It's been so hot out even Cody runs back in after potty lol. Heat wave has finally broken for us today, high to be 79 what a joy, now we can get some outdoor time.

We have a cold front moving in today and they expect really bad storms. We are supposed to go from a high of 97 to a low of 69 which is a huge drop. People have been losing power like crazy around us for days during this heat wave. With my grandma on oxygen and 4 pups I could just see us all loaded in the van if we lost power during these hot days. My pups are not hanging around outside either they go for a quick potty and back in.

It's very humid in Wisconsin and Friday/Saturday we had Heat Advisory Warnings. Temperature on thermometer was 94, heat index took the "feel like" up to 107 degrees! Needless to say, we stayed inside until the thunderstorms moved through Sunday morning!

Haha, like your Joey, Tibbe is no fan of summer! In Texas, summers are bearable because of air conditioning and cloud-cover when we can get it! Tibbe is a BIG fan of A-C, loves cold weather, will stand out in the snow as long as you'll allow it but once his housebreaking training was done, in hot weather he goes potty outside about 3 - 4 times every 24 hours. He'll hold it as long as he possibly can, sometimes until he's about to go and suddenly jumps up, barks sharply, runs to the door and begins to act like he's about to assume the position! I've learned to react sharply and get him out fast as possible. Heck, sometimes I procrastinates 'til the last minute, too, but it's very clear he doesn't want to spend any extra time out in the heat, puts off going outside as long as possible.

Goes out, does his business and on very hot days stays in the shady part of the lawn, is ready to come right inside until evening, when he spends a bit more time outside, patrols the borders of the yard, does his sniffing all around the perimeter and spends some time communing through the fence with Rusty, the Corgi who lives next door, if he happens to be outside, too, but even so, in summer the outside stay is pretty brief.

Contrast that to cool or cold weather, he's out there 6 times or more a day, the colder the better and reluctant to come inside. In cold weather, he'll stand at the far edge of the yard, nose in the air, luxuriating in the cold!

When I first got him, the first thing he'd do on coming inside that summer was hot-foot it to the water bowl, drink, lie down with his belly flat on the tile floor under the den A-C vent and chill out. All these years later, he's the same. Cooled down, he spends some time with me, getting his "lovin's & huggin's & kisses" as we call our special Yorkie-time and then takes himself to the coolest part of the house, down the hall and takes a nap. My bedroom is always freezing in the summer so there or the hall leading to it is where I find him anytime I miss him!

The first cool air that you can feel in the mornings or late evenings toward the end of summer, Tibbe always gets the zoomies and acts like he's had vitamin shots. He starts to act like himself again, always busy running things, usually into something. My little Yorkie is a cold-weather connoisseur.

Yesterday at 5:30PM we had a thunder storm and extremely high winds, I thought my hanging planters would end up in Kansas with Auntie Em. The temp dropped from 92 to 79 when that storm finished 20 minutes later. Today 3 thunder storms and flooding rains, at least I see Cody got over July 4th war zone and back to his lil ole barking self. I saw on the news power outages is some states, glad you didn't lose yours.

Gotta fess up, storms like that now scare me, ever since we lost our power for 3 days after a strong, straight-line wind and storm. That wind hit the house/front door like a car from the whomp sound. Power went out few minutes later. Used to love stormy, windy weather but now that we hear the power grid infrastructure is aged, I have to worry.

Tibbe is extremely put out anytime the power is out. Keeps wanting me to fix it, make all our stuff come back on so he stares, threat-growls at me(it's too cute for words that shortstack, 9"-at-the-withers terrier venting his spleen - sounds like he's been breathing helium when he growls!) for a long time and then paces and paces for the longest time to impress me he's not thrilled with my incompetence!

My house is surrounded by 100 foot high oak trees, these high gusting winds scare the heck outta me, always afraid with all the rain last summer and so much snow this past winter and more rain this summer one of those trees will get up-rooted and land on my roof.
These pups are so funny, my 2 now passed girls would bark and carry on when we had power surges, the lights would flicker on and off, the smoke detector would chirp and they would go crazy, Cody does the same thing lol, it's funny how this breed has the same characteristics, but are so different in many ways.

That Mr Tibbe is quite the little character lol, they are so funny.

Oh, I know. I have a tall, old tree in the front yard that now worries me as you see news stories of old trees breaking or falling over on the house! Takes an oil well income to have one taken down! Those straight line winds that knocked our power out also cost about $200.00 in tree trimming charges to take out 2 huge broken limbs and thin it out, then a third limb broke 2 days later!

It's true. Having one Yorkie is very like having all the others, most of them having such similar traits. I remember once the long drought after losing fragile, girlie-like little Jilly was over, when I brought Tibbe home, a totally different type Yorkie, very robust, foursquare, short, cobby little male fireplug, it was like having her again in most other ways. They all reek of Yorkiness! It's kind of like I've had the same eternal Yorkie most of my life, lucky me!

Where we used to live we lost power from a hurricane and a Derincio or whatever it was called and we lost power for days. Where we are now if we lose power which is rare it’s only for a few hours if that. We have well water now though so if the power goes out we have no water. So luckily my dad is normally here to hook up our small generator so we can use the bathroom. I hate during hurricanes and stuff when the power goes out and you can hear the storm wayyyy to well. It’s also hard with the pups because they only go potty outside.

I was in a house when a tree fell on it and that is the most awful sound ever. I will never forget it.

Never thought about that but I imagine w/out power, that storm is mighty loud! Wonder what poor dogs must think during one? Another reason I'll never ride out another hurricane as even a weak one can break trees, power poles, lines, etc. Being w/out power is the worst! We rode out a hurricane once in Houston but it just made it to hurricane status and our part of Houston was lucky, only wild wind, some flooding and lost a lot of palm fronds. Thankfully, it was a weak storm and our power stayed on.

OMG Taylor, you're lucky to be alive to tell that story, How horrifying.

When we get those 65 MPH winds with gusts of 85 MPH all I want to do is grab the kid, jump in my car and head to the nearest supermarket and wait it out, but, a captain always goes down with his ship and so I stay

My grandfather slept through it but me, my grandma and Callie stayed up but luckily had a battery powered radio we turned on for some block out noise. I ended up having to take Callie outside during a hurricane and it was terrible. I feel like the older I get the more I dislike them.

Luckily it was a two story house and the deck slowed it down a little. It took me all of a second to put my jacket on and say alright let’s go. Luckily this was before Callie but that sound is worse then music they play in horror films.
