| Prevention is important I just want to remind everyone preventive care is a necessary part of owning a dog and a lot cheaper then what happens if you don’t. Giving a heart worm chew that costs around $54 for a year supply is a lot cheaper then the $1,000 treatment that can cause lasting heart issues and kill your dog. A spay is a lot cheaper then pyometra which would cause the need for an emergency spay and can still cause death, or the cost of raising puppies until 12 weeks or the emergency c-section and or the cost of removing mammary tumors . It’s much cheaper for a neuter then the emergency neuter when the prostate swells up and the dog can no longer go potty, or emergency surgery for testicular cancer. Giving a vaccine to prevent parvo costs a lot less then a dog in the emergency vet for multiple nights trying to live. Getting yearly blood work can help you catch thing early before they become huge big health issues. Just remember prevention is very important especially is these small guys.

| We didn't have worries about heartworm or lyme disease when living in Sparks, NV. I just returned from having Piper tested for both (required each year) and picking up meds she takes year around (as recommended by vet). Cost was over $400 and worth every single penny! I would hate to think of Piper suffering because I didn't do something preventive...Thank you for excellent reminders on how we can best look after the well-being of our little ones! |

| I recently Bella had her annual exam and my vet said as long as she is on Heartworm medication for the past year and I purchase it through him than he only needs to do the Heartworm test every other year. However, if I purchase the medication from another vendor than he make me repeat the test yearly. I think this is just a way for him to get more money by me purchasing meds via him but he has reasonable costs so I am ok with it.

| Just Sayin . . . Since most of us keep our pups on the heart worm med yearly why would we have to test yearly if they're not off the meds? Just throwing that out there. Pay for an annual exam as usual, test, and new script. Oh I'll do it because it's expected and thank goodness it's not a financial issue, but really?

| Heart worm pills is once a month, I buy a one year supply, my vet has this on record, when that one year supply is finished my vet will not sell heart worm prevention unless heart worm blood test is done for the reasons Taylor has explained. I have to assume all vets must do this test before reselling their clients.
