| Newbie intro & loooking for advce Hello from MN, Last May I adopted a 5 yr old Yorkie/ Brussels mix from Midwest Animal Rescue near the Twin Cities. He was initially a rescue as a pup from Missouri, probably from a puppy mill situation, & has been adopted & returned 3 times in MN. I'm his 4th & forever owner. He's a sweet little guy with a lot of baggage- no socialization as a pup, abused & very fearful, which he displays as fear aggression toward strangers, other dogs & at being touched. He's come a long way since May- he no longer cowers at loud noises or the sight of a mop or broom & now holds his head high when he approaches me. He's OK being bathed & likes T-touch massages- tummy is still a no-no zone- & he finally likes to be carried. He used to scream at any touch. Since I need to groom him at home, I would like recommendations for the best scissors to trim his hair. I've been slowly trimming a bit with shears I used on my last Bichon (I had Bichons for 30 years-lost my babe at 17 a year ago) but I need something appropriate for his coat. So happy to find this group - thanks for letting me be here! JJ624 & Godfrey |

| Although I don’t have grooming help, I wanted to tell you how awesome you were to rescue this guy and put the time and effort in with him.

| Welcome to YT, I also don't have any grooming tips / advise just wanted to say thank you for rescuing this little guy and working on his issues. 4 owners is a lot for this lil tyke. Trust takes time and lots of patience which appears you have plenty of since he has made much improvements. We do have several members that groom their pups, hopefully they will chime in with suggestions, opinions, advise.

| Thank you- he is so worth it. I think the previous adopters just saw a cute dog & didn't understand what he needs. |

| I just use small hairdresser scissors and I also use a tangle teaser brush ,as its great for working out any mats without tugging, wishing you luck with the grooming, and also glad you found this little one and gave him a forever home.

| Suggested these scissors last week on another grooming question. They are well priced, and work well with our three! Pet Magasin Grooming Scissors Kits - (2 Pairs - 1 for Body and 1 for Face + Ear + Nose + Paw) - Sharp and Strong Stainless Steel Blade Dog Grooming Scissors with Round Tip Top for Dogs and Cats BTW, welcome to YT!

| You are a wonderful human being for taking this boy in and working with him through his issues!!! I dont have much experience but I alternate between straight hairdresser scissors, safe baby scissors for hair around eyes and thinning shears to even everything out. He looks so cute as a bear )))) |

| Just wanted to welcome you and thank you for giving this sweet little guy a responsible, loving forever home. My Tibbe came home a crate-crazy, intact, un-housebroken, phobic, terrified, undersocialized 9 mo. old Yorkie with bad teeth 10 years ago. Former neighbors had told the breeder he was left with to find him a home that he'd spent his entire 9 mos. in a crate in a shed outside w/little-to-no socialization. After much love, patience, regular bi-annual check-ups w/annual dental cleanings(very important for many Yorkies), upbeat, fun basic obedience training and behavior modification techniques, lots of chasing games(his favorite) and playtime and just chillin' on the couch w/me, my little Tibbe has turned into the perfect pet. He's both human- and dog-friendly and only occasionally has phobic reactions to odd sounds(mostly on TV). I couldn't find a sweeter, more well-behaved baby if I looked the world over! Your little one can turn into your best pet yet given half a chance! God bless for your rescue!!!!

| What a tough start for your adorable Tibbe. So glad he found you. All these little babes need is kindness, love & patience - and understanding the personality of a terrier. Godfrey had his first ever dental cleaning in December -7 extractions. On the plus side the x-rays showed no bone loss in his jaws. He now gets a Tartar Shield chew (lasts for 2-3 days) & supplement his diet with Royal Canin Dental diet. He tolerates having his nails trimmed but while he was sedated the vet tech trimmed the hair between his toes & shaved his underside :-) He's a great watchdog & will accept a visitor only after I introduce them & he checks them out - then it's kisses all over. When we go for a walk & someone walks by he now comes to me, paws on my knee & gets a treat. Big improvement from going into attack mode last spring. Thank you for your kind reply - he's a sweet little boy. Last edited by jj624; 02-06-2019 at 09:34 AM. Reason: Poor typing skills! |

By working to change his association of the fear he feels when meeting a new person or dog, you'll be able to modify to any fear aggression into happy acceptance. Tibbe was all fears when I got him, very aggressive. Now he's the maybe the most socially-accepting Yorkie I've had! Best of luck!
