| New from CA! *waves* Hi Everyone! Joined this forum to learn more about yorkies from all angles and perspectives. This is my first time owning a small breed. I've only ever raised bigger dogs and I picked up this munchkin from a friend who's pair had a small litter. This is Kush! he is the biggest of a litter of 4. He was definitely an ugly duckling imo and not a cutey looker like most typical yorkies. His mom is papered, his dad isn't so I call him my half-well bred pup. He is currently almost 5 months old and weighs in at 9.4 lbs. Kush is on the bigger side. If I can get pics of his siblings, i'll add for comparison. My boyfriend wanted to legit give him away when we first brought him home because he required TONS of potty training but who doesn't love a challenge? He went from a pee pee monster, to refined occasional pee-pee monster, if anyone relates. The only thing I'm concerned about is his hair but I heard that it will mature as he gets older. At first, it was course and thick but I think the food change and supplements helped it become better. Anyway, Thank you and I'm excited to be part of the forum! |

| Welcome to YT. I have always had bigger yorkies, nothing wrong with that, they are sturdy dogs and can take rough housing and hard play, no need to worry when they jump off furniture. The smallest yorkie I ever owned was 9 Lbs as an adult, 2 weighed in at 13 Lbs. my last girl now passed was a whopping 17 Lbs, a gorgeous baby, my adopted boy is 12 Lbs. A yorkie no matter the weight is still a yorkie. As he gets older his hair texture will change as will the color, my guy is now 7 yo and his color keeps changing, the tan always stays the same but the grey changes to silver, steel, black, it's now at a salt and pepper lol. He sports a puppy cut year round with full face and a pony tail top knot. Puppy cut is low maintenance and I don't have to worry about tangles and knots when he's hunting for critters, or digging holes and sticking his face in them lol. Kush is just adorable, love him for the dog that he is. Potty training can be a bit of a challenge if he is being pad trained. All my yorkies were trained to potty out doors so I had no issues in training, but you do have to confine him to a small area where his pad is kept. No free roam of home until he is 100% pad trained. Any questions you may have someone on YT will be more then happy to share their experience, advise, suggestions.

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk, and the world of small dogs! Our first little one was a yorkiepoo, and even my husband was hooked. Now we have a pack of three, and my husband is the happiest "pack leader" you will find. They can be stubborn about training issues, etc., but they are also endless mischief and fun! Kush is adorable! You never know how they will look when they get older. Our parti, Tyrone, was a scruffy little puppy...three years later he has a beautiful flowing coat which reaches the floor. He was tracking to be five pounds when he was a puppy, and he now is a sold nine pounds.

| Welcome. He certainly does not look like an ugly duckling to me. You should tell your boyfriend when you get a pet it’s for life no mater the hard things. He still has puppy hair right now so it will change some. I have 4 bigger Yorkies. My oldest who is 11 is 16 pounds, my two that are 2 years old are 12 pounds and my youngest 11 months is 10 pounds. Yorkies are very smart but very stubborn which can make them hard to potty train but we must keep in mind when they mess up it’s generally our fault.

| He looks adorable to me! His legs/paws in this cut look sooo cute)) Most yorkies have they ears up that's why the ones with floppy ears do not look "typical" Our boy is 5 months old as well and is around 6.5lbs, and I would like him to be on the bigger side. Less worry about injuries. Enjoy the puppyhood and the mischief yorkie personality!!! Also, potty training is not the reason to give a dog away((( they require guidance, consistency, praise and love from you in order to train well. |
