| So scary....so stupid. I am still upset concerning an incident the week before Christmas. My regular groomer who I was not happy using was booked. I called and called groomers in the area hoping to find someone to use in the future. I never needed a groomer before this year when I adopted Senior yorkies. Previously and still I have collies who I maintain myself. They are therapy dogs who must be bathed and groomed very often. I bathe my yorkies but shaving, scissoring, etc. are well beyond me. I finally decided to call Petsmart thinking hair grows, but not considering danger to them. Only last week did I learn that at that place on the day one of my yorkies was there, Smuggles, a bulldog, died there. Moreover, later that week a shih tsu also died at the same place. A third was injured. I live six miles away and never heard a thing. My friend in Michigan somehow found it on the internet and called me, I am so unnerved and urge other uninformed dog owners to read about the incident and consider choices they might make in the future. Two deaths at one location is suspicious, but they are still awaiting the results of the necropsy. Dogs can die from abuse or neglect at groomers, but they can also die of natural causes. For me, the jury is still out on this incident. Here is a link to a news article about another incident at a mobile pet groomer in Phoenix, Arizona, where a dog was found hung to death on the grooming table and the groomer was found in a fetal position on the floor of the grooming van: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...an/1038398001/ That death is also still under investigation. The important take-home lesson is that if you have your dog groomed at a professional groomer, check out their history and reputation on a case-by-case basis. It's not fair to paint all Petsmart groomers or all mobile groomers with the same brush. | |

| I was attempting to point out that I was not careful and had really not considered the dangers only the quality of the result. I really don,t know how the safety of a particular groomer can be ascertained especially at a chain store where there are many groomers. I hear you and agree. Different people work at different locations. Not all are equal. NJ does not license groomers. I wish they did as well as had health inspectors check them out as they do beauty salons. Gew |

At our Petsmart, we can always book with Bella's previous groomer by name. They don't assign the groomers randomly. Last edited by pstinard; 01-25-2018 at 07:35 AM. | |

| I should tell the story of why we switched groomers for Bella from her first groomer (Pampered Pet of Champaign, IL) to her current groomer (Petsmart of Champaign, IL). When we first took Bella in to Pampered Pet, she would be groomed by the salon's owner, who was a very good groomer. Then once, they pawned her off on to another groomer at the salon without our knowledge, and when she came back, she had severe diarrhea and was sick for a couple of days. We suspect that she was given an unauthorized dog treat that disagreed with her. Since she was sick so quickly, we doubt that it was simply exposure to a sick dog. She also seemed fearful. We HOPE that she wasn't yelled at or otherwise abused. We've never had that problem at Petsmart, and we can watch her through the window while she is getting her hair cut, if we want to. She seems comfortable on the grooming stable, and she holds still for the groomer. Actually, we're kind of jealous, because she never holds still for us, LOL! |

| I heard about that on Facebook. It really depends on the groomer and place I think. Some can have good groomers. I used to use Petco and loved the groomer there and never had any issues.

| I have intense trust issues regarding groomers. I know I'll never find anyone like Carolyn, my groomer in Nevada; I just want to find someone who will listen to what I want for Piper and who will treat Piper with kindness and consideration. I did give Piper a bit of a bath last week--I got more water on me than her and just got a bit of soap on her back and little domed head. Neither of us is any the worse for wear, so I'll count it successful. Piper didn't think much of my bathing technique, but she did get clean and soft! |

| Scary! I use a mobile groomer. I've used her for... 7+ years now? Jackson is 9. He still hates being groomed and freaks but that is just his personality. He's 1000x better than when I had to go drop him off somewhere for hours. I LOVE her so much - she does such an amazing job and he doesn't even have to leave our driveway. He's done in less than 1.5 hours. He will go up to her once she is done and take his treat so I know he's not being mistreated (he just HATES being groomed or going to the vets). I think he was traumatized by the place I used to take him to as a pup. I know so much more now than I used to and doing proper research.
