I go to an allergist and they test you for your allergens and then put them into shots and give them to you weekly to boost your immune system and help you not be so sensitive to your allergens you might want to think about giving that a try. I have done them for a year and am now moved over to every two weeks. It helps me a lot and I have less sinus infections now.

I do go to an Allergy Clinic in Wisconsin. I used to take shots twice a week now I do the allergy drops under the tongue twice. I been doing really good on the drops. Kinder my yorkie has an allergy to chicken and that has been hard. She has calcium oxalate crystals and the Royal Canin SO for crystals is hydrolyzed but she still has crystals from it. I am in Arizona now and I got a good vet clinic which they are working on for food. I might end up having to take her to Vegas or back to Mn. to the university animal hospital. She is happy and healthy but we do not want those crystals to turn to stones. Glad I bought PetPlan when she was a baby because it is paying off. Slightly different topic. Human vaccines: I just got the new Shingrix shingles vaccine today. I was the first person vaccinated at our CVS location, so I was kind of an experimental animal for them. No pain or other side effects so far. It's a lot more effective than the old Zostavax shingles vaccine, and you can get it if you're over 50, as opposed to over 60 for the Zostavax. I'm not making a recommendation one way or the other, but if you're concerned about shingles, this might be something to consider.

I got a shingles shot several years back (geez, Susie sells seashells by the...!), so should I go in and get this Shingrix? You're so knowledgeable in so many areas and it's great that you take time to share info w/everyone!

Yes. In fact, it's recommended that you get the new shingles vaccine if you got the old one in the past. The new one is much more effective. Here is a link to a good article from CBS news about this: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/new-shi...should-get-it/

You can get more information from your doctor or pharmacist. So far, my only side effect is slight soreness where I got the injection--kind of like a flu shot.

Here it's mandatory. Cocoa and Chloe got flu shots in September. It's 2 rounds at $75 each per dog.

I'm not getting the vaccination for Gidget. We don't go to dog parks and we're not around other dogs. I take her for walks here at the apartment complex so she's not exposed to other dogs. When I take her to the groomer, she's usually the only one there. I've stopped taking her to PetSmart for training classes and have started ordering her food on Chewy. I'm leery of taking her to places like PetSmart because you never know if the dogs you encounter are up-to-date on any of their shots. Better safe than sorry.

I think you'll probably be safe, providing your groomer uses disinfectant to clean the grooming table in between grooms and takes other appropriate sanitation precautions like hand washing, etc. From http://vet.uga.edu/images/uploads/ho...enza_Facts.pdf

If your dog is vaccinated then it doesn't matter if unvaccinated dogs are in yours is protected.

I don't think I gave another update everyone did fine after, they go for the second shot next Thursday. I was talking to my vet and she said the flu shot is the shot she has the least issues with dogs having issues with. Penny didn't even know she got hers and came home playing and running around as normal.

I checked and they're not real concerned about flu shots around these parts. Lyme disease is the biggie scare here. I had Piper vaccinated (hopefully Lyme preventative) the other day and she goes back for booster end of February.

Lyme is an issue here to that’s one of the vaccines Joey had a hard time with but he gets his Benadryl and pain meds and does ok. He gets a little grumpy though.

Our little Biewer went into the vet for her last booster shot plus rabies shot at 15 weeks old...and she got so sick...I mean sick!!...I hAD TO TAKE HER into emergency vet that night. I thought I was going to loose her that night.......I asked the head vet why they gave the 2 shots together? the answer was elementary, with( normally we do that)... I lost my $$it...

As far as taking my dogs into the USA, they must have all their shots up to date...and at that time I will definitely get what is the minimum required....NOTHING more.... I thought the article from Canada was well done, JMHO

With this little ones you should only do one shot at a time. In the future you might want to give Benadryl before. My little guy reacts poorly to vaccines but with Benadryl first he is ok.

LOL.....This is my whole point of commenting on this thread....If I would have known this ahead of time, I most definitely would have givin her some....This vet...IMHO wanted the $$ rather then the safety of the animal. both my dogs have been vaccinated now and will not get anymore...
