| There was that awful story here recently about a member tripping on a broken concrete drive-way, suddenly falling forward on her baby in the sling and the poor little thing was killed then and there from blood loss, what I think she said was thought to be a ruptured aorta. I never even thought about a sling carrier with the dog snug in the hammock-like bag part being at risk of being crushed if the wearer should fall forward with their full weight on the dog!

| Here's the link to that thread - a tragic story. I never even thought carrying a dog in a sling as a potential danger before reading Marymommer's post. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/mem...e-my-life.html

I am considering a sling, too. There are times where I just need to be able to pick her up and let her be comfortable without a lot of fuss. I will be making sure whatever I get doesn't prevent me from watching where I am stepping!

Carrying sacks and a parcel, none of which I'd planned on purchasing when I entered the mall, along with my purse, I stepped off the mall carpet onto what proved to be slippery stone tile flooring going into a Victoria's Secret entrance to avoid a herd of teens coming up fast behind me, somehow turning my ankle for the first and only time in my life and unceremoniously and without any warning, suddenly pitching forward with my body fully stretched out, breaking my 5th metatarsal and sustaining blunt force trauma/abrasions to both knees, a few ribs, right hand/wrist and chest wall, in the process and barely avoiding a full faceplant by getting that one hand partially under my shoulder to save my face, the tip of my nose still hitting the floor! I was just walking along a the mall, minding my own business, no broken flooring or objects, obvious dangers of any kind in my way, when all of that suddenly happened and I went instantaneously down with a'splat'! No way to plan, foresee or protect against some things that can happen before you even know it. Before I could even give a intentional thought of what to do or process any thoughts about reacting, I had reflexively stepped out of the way of those teens and next was trying to get up from the floor, purse, packages everywhere and most of my body hurting. Had I had a dog snugged in a sling across my abdomen or chest, he could have been crushed or otherwise badly injured or killed - the fall was that sudden and forceful. Before that, I couldn't have believed a person could go down that suddenly and so hard from just instinctively taking a step to the side to move out of the way!

| So scary Jeanie! That story gives me chills. Makes me want to stick with the stroller - with caution!

| Just showed me how fast and without even having time to think - about what to do and how best to do it - when unexpected things happen and reactions kick in when nothing seemingly 'dangerous' is anywhere nearby. I went down so fast and hard, but for reflexively getting one hand partially under me, I'd have cracked my face right into that very hard tile floor, no conscious thought processes having had time to develop!

| I looked at one of these. I really like them! Kaycee seems to feel so comfortable in one even while my dingy neighbor is still shooting off fireworks! I do understand the above concerns about falling & the same risk is there for the 1000's of people carrying a human infant in a snuggie my little ones spent much of their lives in wire cages producing babies..so yeah major TLC they will get! thanks for the feedback on a brand! |

I looked up a Fundle as an option for us. I saw the price and realized it's not your average, off the shelf sling carrier! I'll be saving a while, but I'm not going to waste my money on one until I can get a Fundle. I like the fact that to dog can stretch out naturally on a supported surface. I also liked the style with the mesh sides. I can always add clothes, but in the heat she'd come out smelling like dirty socks in a solid bag. Just to see how it would go, I put my pup in a shoulder bag with a firm bottom to see what she'd think. I was shocked that she was pretty content peeking out and getting to come along for the ride without being held. Definitely on my wish list.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I wanted a sling for our eldest, Wylie, who is blind and can no longer go on walks. But it was SO uncomfortable for both me and my husband's back and neck - it may be bc Wylie is about 8.5lbs - just doesn't distribute weight in such a way that works w/ your back.
