| Dog sheds tears often Hey guys. Ive made extra steps to keep my dog happy. I give her treats often. I spend a lot of time with her. I give her alot of yard time. Free time. Lots of toys but she constantly sheds tears... Like i wake up to find eye crusts and i clean them often. Every couple of hours... Why is she tearing up so much ? I cant be that bad of an owner. |

| Dogs don't cry like us it's eye drainage. It can really be from a lot of different things like food and allergies. All my dogs have some so I clean them in the morning and at night. I just use a wet cloth or paper towel.

| Yeah eye drainage sounds about right. She gets it a lot. The town I am living in has an air quality advisory at level orange for the past week. Would that be it? |

Our yorkie gets eye-goo that will dry to eye-boogies if we don't get to it. We use ProEye Professional Cleansing Eye Pads and a flea comb with really short tines that fits easily in my hand to comb through the hair. I make sure that anything stuck is wiggled out with the pad and my fingers before the comb so it doesn't pull but the comb still gets the fine stuff out of her hair. The eye pads are very soothing and seem to calm her eye corners. Our vet said "yes, some breeds do that" and "if it's excessive, it's probably an allergy or irritant reaction." We do notice she's had a bit more this spring after being out in the yard, so may there is an allergy component. The main thing is to make sure it's not an eye infection especially if there has been a sudden increase. Then clean with as little irritation to the eyes as you can. https://www.amazon.com/Top-Performan...cleansing+pads https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...=3GGSNOSPK3LSR

They do look and feel like boogers... Rather gross to think about. Been calling them eye boogers, eye snots, eye gunk. Mostly eye boogers. Last edited by FlyingNimbus; 05-20-2017 at 04:38 PM.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | If the discharge is yellow-greenish...then a vet needs to see it bc of possible infection. Otherwise, could be due to allergies too. Anytime certain pollens are heavy in the air here, 3 of my dogs' eye issues worsen. I would go to pollen.com and sign up for their email notifications for high pollens in your area - this way, you can keep track of whether or not her eye issues are worse during certain times of year etc.

Ill take a look at the pollen thing. I sort of hate new jersey because of this-- we have high pollution problems just as bad as nyc... makes me not want to even live here anymore.

| So neat! I never thought to look up pollen count before. My own allergies have been killing me lately! As for the eye boogers - what is the main protein in the diet that your dog is on? Scottie used to have eye-drainage issues. I rotated between different proteins (flavours) from the same kibble brand and discovered that there are certain proteins that give him runnier eyes. It was something I did over a span of about half a year, as he'd have to finish a 4lb bag of kibble before I gradually switched flavours. Maybe it's something you may wanna try out?

I wanted to wait 2 weeks after her last round of shots so that nothing affects her negatively. I think she may already had some teeth pulled out, I have to see up close later so I can count.
