| I forgot to update. I got all of mine the Lyme vaccine. I gave Benadryl to Joey who doesn't react to vaccines well and then pain meds after and he did fine. The girls also did fine. I decided to get it after talking to my vet and hearing several stories of owners whose dogs died from Lyme and I was just not willing to risk that.

| I hope someone can help. My little one received the Lyme vaccine today and she is now limping, lethargic and shaking. I am very worried! Is there anything I can do at this point to help her? Should I call the vet? Feeling really bad since I didn’t really think it through... moving out west soon. So dumb ! |

| Joey also had reactions as a puppy and had to go to the er vet because of course the reaction was after the regular vet closed. I think it might be because these guys are so small. Now we give Benadryl before and the metacam the day of and for 3 days after although last vaccine he only needed it for two days.

| Thank you both so very much for your response. Just returned from the emergency vet. I am so happy I went. It appears that she had a localized reaction to her vaccine. Vitals were good! They administered an injection of diphenhydramine (benedryl?) and buprenex (anti inflammatory?) and also gave her a dose of steroid orally with instructions to follow up if she is not markedly better in the morning. She is tired but home with me and I am very grateful. Lovetodream88 your advice is good regarding Benadryl before vaccinations. I will be following this advise from here on out. Thank you. These guys are so small you never can be too careful. Again, I thank you both for your concern and advise. |

| I no longer get the Lyme shot for my dogs because we have moved to Florida, and it is not an issue in our area. Also, my dogs spend any "outdoor" time on our screened lanai. When we lived in New York we had a yorki-poo who contracted Lyme when it was just being discovered. Our vet even submitted a paper for review outlining his case, since it was one of the first being recognized in the Hudson Valley. Poor little Max was fine for his night walk at approximately 11 p.m., but by morning couldn't stand and was hardly breathing when it first presented. Our wonderful vet helped him recover (it took quite some time), but he had relapses several times throughout the rest of his life. We always had his antibiotic "cocktail" of meds with us, an treated him as soon as he exhibited symptoms. Needless to say, we did vaccinate any of our other dogs when we lived in NY.
