I no longer get the Lyme shot for my dogs because we have moved to Florida, and it is not an issue in our area. Also, my dogs spend any "outdoor" time on our screened lanai.

When we lived in New York we had a yorki-poo who contracted Lyme when it was just being discovered. Our vet even submitted a paper for review outlining his case, since it was one of the first being recognized in the Hudson Valley. Poor little Max was fine for his night walk at approximately 11 p.m., but by morning couldn't stand and was hardly breathing when it first presented. Our wonderful vet helped him recover (it took quite some time), but he had relapses several times throughout the rest of his life. We always had his antibiotic "cocktail" of meds with us, an treated him as soon as he exhibited symptoms. Needless to say, we did vaccinate any of our other dogs when we lived in NY.
