When we lived in New York we had a yorki-poo who contracted Lyme when it was just being discovered. Our vet even submitted a paper for review outlining his case, since it was one of the first being recognized in the Hudson Valley. Poor little Max was fine for his night walk at approximately 11 p.m., but by morning couldn't stand and was hardly breathing when it first presented. Our wonderful vet helped him recover (it took quite some time), but he had relapses several times throughout the rest of his life. We always had his antibiotic "cocktail" of meds with us, an treated him as soon as he exhibited symptoms. Needless to say, we did vaccinate any of our other dogs when we lived in NY. | That sounds so scary. I know lots of actual people here that have gotten it. Ollie goes Friday for his first Lyme shot. We don’t really have ticks in our yard but we take them to different classes at our trainer and their facility is on a farm and ticks and Lyme are very bad here.
