| Bonding with new dog Today I think I have finally fully bonded with Bella. Before I loved her and wanted the best but something was still missing. (Not exactly sure) I just felt closer to Thumper since I had him longer. He is just my love bug. I think I may have been missing Boomer a lot still. I stayed home today due to the Blizzard and loved watching her play as I worked on the computer. My heart just became over joyed with love for her. Has it ever taken awhile for you to bond with a new yorkie. Right now both of them are sleeping as I type this right next to me and I love it.

| I think it takes awhile to develop a bond with pets. Just as it takes time for a pet to bond with you. That's normal. I don't know the psychology behind it but I'd imagine that the more and more time you spend with each other, the more you'll develop a strong bond with each other. It takes time to develop that strong attachment and bond with our pets. |

| Yes, I had just put down my 17 yo girl, I swore no more dogs, the pain is to over whelming. 6 weeks after putting her down my vet called me, they had just gotten in a surrender not an abused dog 2 1/2 yo neutered male. I was still grieving deeply for my little girl. I gave my vet all the reasons why I couldn't / didn't want another dog. She pleaded with me to just come see the dog, he reminded her of my Matese. Out of respect for my vet for thinking of me and to appease her i went to "just see the dog", I knew I would not be bringing home a male dog. They had taken him to their lunch area, this poor lil guy, every time the door opened he ran to greet who ever came in. I felt so sorry for this poor baby,he was very thin, too thin, how could anyone just give him away. I knew I could give him a good home. I had NOTHING for a dog, I had donated everything dog related to my local no kill shelter. I told my vet I don't even have a leash, well Cody came with a shopping bag of his things lol, it was a starter. I am home all day, Cody bonded with me in 24 hours. I liked him, I trained him commands, tricks, he is very very smart and learns quickly, 6 weeks down the road my feelings for him increased. The more I worked with him the more my feelings for him deepened. He was / is my first rescue. It took me couple of months to realize I loved the little guy, to realize he rescued me and my house had become a home again because of him. I had always had 8 week old puppies that I raised MY way. Having an older dog not raised by me was different, I had to retrain him MY WAYS, he is a PERFECT boy,a PERFECT dog. We're together 3 years now, and I LOVE this boy. Sometimes it just takes a little longer to bond with a rescue especially if you have recently lost one that you loved deeply. Happy to hear you have bonded with lil Bella.

When I brought home Max, my first Yorkie, I was in awe. Of course I loved him immediately, but I was so overwhelmed, nervous about taking care of a tiny puppy, so it took probably a week before I felt a bond. Teddy was 8 months old when we picked him up and I felt the bond right away.

| I would say I fell in love with Jackson when I first got him in the door. The pickup and the car ride home, I had a bit of a freak out moment of "what did I do?" after he threw up in my car LOLLL. Once I got him in the door, he really opened up and I would say we instantly bonded. My "other" dog who my mom & stepdad brought home - a little cockapoo girl puppy, Lola... it was different because we went into this knowing she wasn't my dog so I purposely tried to not get attached. I wanted her to bond to my mom and little sister, etc. I even left for a week with Jackson and stayed over at my dads house (I live with my mom). Grrrr. I tried and failed. My mom and stepdad are not the best 'animal people'. They love them but they're not like... how we are on YT lol. So for all intents and purposes she is MINE and I really love her. It's a different love than Jackson. He's my boy. But I love her *almost* just as much. She's an amazing dog and I couldn't deny the bond after a few months.
