Harnesses for new babies Hi everyone. I just joined and I'm fairly sure I'm not gonna do this right, but I figure I have to start somewhere. So here goes. My husband and I will pick up 2 male pups expected to be "ready" around 2/4/17. [They were born 12/10/16.] Their parents are 4 and 6 lbs, so they're gonna be super tiny. We will travel 5+ hours back home with the new babies, and by the time we get them I expect they'll weigh <1 lb. We'll put them in the back seat in a seatbelt secured booster seat that has two tethers; we want harnesses that have only Velcro closures - no buckles - tiny enough for them. I found item #5247226 Top Paw® Sporty Adjustable Small Dog Harness at petsmart.com. But I don't know if XS or even 2XS will be small enough. Does anyone know anything about this?

How exciting instead of a booster seat what about a carry case and tether the care case into the back seat they will curl up and go to sleep together. I bought a really nice pink one and used it alot for my babies when they were little. Great for Vet trips and outings when they are tiny. It will make them feel safe as well. And for potty a pee pad in the well of the back seat one on each side when you stop for coffee you can let them out on the floor for a run about and a pee. Sounds like so much fun can I come LOL LOL

LOL. I'm sure it WILL be fun. I'm so excited I can barely contain myself! I've been talking with other dog lover friends, and one suggested the harness idea is not good at all for these teeny tiny guys, that it could actually be dangerous. Another told me the booster seat should work fine for them to curl up in for the ride, but what would keep them from flying out of it in case of impact? Another friend suggested, as you did, to use their carrier, which the more I think about it sounds like the best choice, as long as it can be secured to the back seat. It's been over 16 years since my (dearly departed) Molly was a tiny pup, so I'm out of practice She traveled with us all those years (a whopping 6 lbs. as an adult) in her belted-in booster seat wearing a harness, and we always felt comfortable that she was safe. I guess I'm just nervous about "doing the puppy thing" after so many years.

| Puppies really need to stay with their moms until they are 12 weeks especially if they are that tiny! I wouldn't even get a harness at this point because they shouldn't even be walking around on a leash any where at that age or size due to parvo and distemper. They would do much better in a plastic carrier that you can keep then away from drafts and keep them warm. Since the breeder is not following proper yorkie breeding protocol she may have no made sure the health of her breeders was all checked out so I would get pet insurance on the ASAP. Make sure they are eating every couple of hours and not left alone for long periods or time and make sure you have nutrical.

Thank you both so much for all that info! I didn't get Molly (R.I.P.) until she was 10 weeks, so I've been talking with my husband about 8 weeks maybe being too young. Of course, on the internet you find some (but who are they?) saying 8 weeks is OK - that's actually the reason I found YorkieTalk to begin with - and that should have been my first question to y'all, got sidetracked thinking about what we need to have on hand. I will get that Nutrical - I've seen that mentioned a lot. I'm going to contact the breeder today to see if she can keep them with mom another few weeks, not sure any of the litter are still with mom - ughhhh, I sure hope this woman can be trusted to be doing the right thing (but of course it's just not possible to know for sure). My husband I have also been looking at insurance, found one called "Healthy Paws" that seems OK - does anyone know anything about them? In the meantime we'll check out Turpanion. Thanks again!

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I know what you mean about them growing fast, I messed up when we got Molly 15-16 years ago... I can't find even ONE pic of her as a 10-week old baby! [Of course, this was long before I got a digital camera and cell phone.] I can't believe it, cuz for years I've sworn that every single minute with her has been a "Kodak moment" LOL. I sent a pic once to my sister, and she emailed back that she had already seen it... I wrote back and said, no, this one's from today - I guess no matter how many times she did the same thing, it was as if it were something new and wonderful. I'm such a "York-dork," as my sister calls me.
