Yeah sounds like they are wanting your attention without them going to bed with you or they don't want you to go to bed just yet so you can also pay attention to them. My girl will whine for attention and/or to get on the bed but when I turn out the lights and try to sleep, she'll make these annoyed grunting noises till I get frustrated (cause she wants me to constantly pet her and stuff) and put her back down on the floor >_<;; Every so often she'll conk out for an hour in bed with me but only if she's comfy and sleeping her way. Even then that don't last for very long. Which is funny cause she'll actually sleep better if I let her have most or the whole bed (I have a twin size >_<) to herself. Sooo... yea it's either sitting by her/sleeping in a weird position or just let her have the bed while I'm on the computer or something. lol

it's a play thing he wants to be chased, most yorkies love to be chased and often they are not as tired as you are when it's time for bed because they have been sleeping while you have been watching TV. annoying as hell but common. I would figure out a way to corner him right off the bat, that's what i do with Lola, she goes potty via leash right before bed, so i don't even set her loose, the leash comes off and I carry her up he stairs and place her in bed. We did the pet stairs for a while but I did not like it, she would use them to go up and then jump down and i don't want to encourage jumping off our high bed

I had no idea this was a thing! My little girl does this all the time and it drives me crazy. Nice to know I'm not alone.

He may be playing, or has a fear of the way you pick him up... Maybe too fast or he is uncomfortable with the placement of your hands. You can try petting him first before grabbing at him... If he's playing put a spin on the game by reaching for him but then pull your hands back. After a few times he'll be headed for your hands at the same time your hands are headed for him making it easier to get a hold on him.

I have had a good laugh reading all of your post, I have always been a bit concerned about Micah doing everything that you all have said lol guess it is a Yorkie thing

A LOT of little dogs I know do this. My friends 4lb Yorkie does it a lot. It can be annoying. I think they fear you may hurt them by accident when picking them up. I know Jackson HATES being picked up so I have to approach him in a certain way that is less threatening, I guess? Also you can try using treats to train. Do the movement like you're going to pick him up (but then don't -- just provide a treat). Get him used to the movement your body makes and then gradually begin actually picking him up.

We have another clue to this mystery...when he's ready for bed he doesn't back up. But I go to bed around 1-2am so he is ready to bed time then. Just not when I go to bed at midnight. Guess he's a night owl like I am?

Mine aren't allowed on my bed, but they both do the same..ask to be on the couch and then back away when I reach to pick them up!
It's very annoying indeed! With Scottie, he does a pretty good stay. So when he asks, I tell him to stay and he'll stay for me to pick him up.

But what's more annoying... Scottie will ask to be on the couch. I put him on the couch. He jumps off. And then turns around to ask to come back up. What kind of game is that?!? hahaha...

Oh, let's see.. Cheyenne does it all the time! Usually by the third time she decides to let me pick her up, but she spins around so that her behind is facing me so she can see out when I pick her up.
Rusty spins around for me to pick up, but doesn't back up.
Chewie and Macayla don't do it at all.
