| Feeding my 10 week old Hi, I just got my new baby. His name is Bentley and 10 weeks old. When should the last feeding of the day be...for example if we go to bed at 10pm? Also I put him on a leash to potty and he is stubborn 😀. He will not budge with it on...what do I do? |

| Congratulations on your new baby Bentley. Best feeding times can vary from dog to dog. With small puppies, free feeding (food available all day) is best, or 3 - 4 small meals. My boys eat at 5 am, 11 am, and 4 pm. Yes, they like dinner early, but they get potty rewards all evening. Good to have a little in the stomach for overnight, to prevent bile throw up in morning. He may be reluctant to eat while adjusting to his new home. My Max was funny and wanted to be hand fed his first year. Yorkies! Leash: puppies, especially when you bring them home can be funny. Just be patient. You should stick to your own yard, preferably where other dogs cannot access until Bentley has his puppy shots. Just stand with him until he wants to move. You can try to coax him with a toy or a treat, or another human standing a few feet away.

| What schedule was he on when you got him from the breeder? Was he being taking outside or trained to go on wee wee pads? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | For a 10 week old, I'd probably feed something like this: 7am, 11am, 3-4pm, 7-8pm. Then maybe a little treat right before bedtime. On the leash - use a harness, never a collar (collars are for IDs only for yorkies)...and you just have to be patient, and try using treats for when he moves.

| Thank you all so much. This is only his 2nd day in his new home. He ate 1/4 cup x 2 yesterday. Been trying to hand feed to...scared his sugar would drop. I read somewhere to put a little Karo syrup in their water. Is this necessary? Also...I'm trying to do a little grooming...Lil brushing and washing just face to get him use to grooming. But he keeps nipping at my hands...not biting but I guess play. But he does it so much and squirms that it is hard to do anything. Is there something I can do to help with this??? Thanks so much! I guess you can tell I haven't had many pets 😊...only a Cocker and he passed 20 years ago. |

| I free feed babies and encourage all my new owners to do so. They go out on Royal Canin puppy kibble. I dont let my babies leave until they are at least 15-16 weeks old..... I encourage free feeding until 8-12 months old, depending on size of pup. I am afraid that it is a belief that hypoglycemia is a common, acceptable issue in all puppies....not true. Not all babies will fall over from hypoglycemia.....it is important they eat for a hundred other reasons, but hypoglycemia is NOT a "normal, expected" consequence of missing meals....none of my puppies has ever had low blood sugar, even when they may not be eating normal meals during the day. | If you have a concern about "hypoglycemia", get a much more beneficial and appropriate source of glucose PLUS vitamins, etc....Dr.Miller's Pet NutraDrops is soooooooooo much better....it is well tolerarted and not such a globbed up sticky mess that stuff in tubes is....and it is so much better for them and addressing stressful situations where baby will burn glucose..... |

| As long as he is eating and doing well, Karo or any other supplement is not necessary for preventative measures. My Max never needed it, although he was a sturdy 3 pounds when I brought him home. Grooming: try to do this when he isn't full of energy. I started with Max at nap time, petting and massaging him on my lap. Then I would sneak in the comb and he would pretend to continue sleeping. Be confident, relaxed, and very patient. Make it a positive experience and he will eventually settle into it. Touch him all over every day, ears, paws, and so on in a relaxing way. That helps them accept being touched for grooming. I thought grooming was going to impossible, but they learn through daily practice.
