Consider reading through all the very useful information provided above on the term "teacup yorkie" and also through this helpful post: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/fea...ead-first.html Whatever you do, please don't be in a hurry and buy one from a 'backyard breeder' on Craigslist or Kijiji. Take your time and do your research. Yorkies are a very delicate breed. If you're looking specifically for a small sized Yorkie, know in advance all the serious health implications that may come with a small Yorkie that wasn't bred by a reputable breeder, where the an unethical / ill-informed breeder** risks unknown inherited diseases just to sell you a 'teacup doll-faced' Yorkie. These potential health issues can result in a lot of grief, emotionally and financially. At the end of the day, the puppies that were bred ignorantly this way who end up suffering are the most innocent. We just want to make sure everyone is aware and that the best way to prevent breeding sick puppies is to seek reputable breeders. **anyone who breeds two dogs can call themselves a "breeder"; it doesn't mean they know what they're doing or know the bloodlines and health history of the dogs they're breeding.

| ^^Good post. Another thing, equally scary if not more scary, are backyard breeders who say they aren't breeders bc they are only doing it once. So they know next to nothing and are bringing lives into this world blindly. Not only that, but they will not and cannot have a health guarantee as they know nothing of their background, and will not hold themselves responsible if there is a health issue with the dogs. And when I say health issues, I mean years down the road, not within the first 48 hours or weeks or months. Many of the genetic conditions passed down don't show up for many years.

| Hello Thank you to those people who welcomed me into the group. I am sorry I offended anybody with my lack of knowledge to the breeds proper name. I came here looking for help in finding a reputable breeder to find a playmate for my sweet Sophie I live in British Columbia, the Vancouver area. If I was looking for a puppy mill puppy I would have went to Craigslist. I am hoping that somebody out there has knowledge of good breeders in North America. Thank you Joy |

| In post 16 above Lorraine was suggested and she is a good breeder and in YT. As the poster said, Lorraine would give you leads if she did not have a dog herself. I doubt if you offended anyone, we just did not want you to pay extra to a breeder who used the terms just to increase the price. I for one did not know these descriptions were no nos until I came on YT! If Lorraine cannot help is there not a Canadian Kennel club you could ask. If you really want a small dog, they are unusual in litters from show or good breeders, but sometimes they throw a tiny and you might be lucky there. But when breeders breed for tinies they do it for money only, not for breeding the best. So you may get a dog with uncertain heritage. Good luck Last edited by dottiesyrky; 03-19-2016 at 02:54 PM. | Welcome to YorkieTalk! I lived in Surrey for a year and loved it. We have some very great breeders on here and you came to the right place looking for a reputable breeder. I would recommend you look into Lorraine from BC. I believe she is from Abbotsford. Good luck!

![]() Glad to hear you're not going with Craigslist / Kijiji. I only mentioned it because that's the first thing that pops up when online searching for Yorkies. And those people often have pretty good stories lined up about what good breeders they themselves are. Here is a list of upcoming dog shows in BC: Canuck Dogs: Your source for Canadian dog event information online. You can take the opportunity to talk to a few breeders and see who has available puppies or at least point you in the right direction with recommendations.

| YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Good advice to ask Lorraine - also yikes senior moment here - Jacpots breeders name - mental gears turning I can see her face shikes oh I have a good idea look at the Westminster videos of Best of Breed judging for Yorkies - you can get the names of all the entries - good field lots of entries and sort through for a breeder near to you. The Westminster Kennel Club | Videos The Westminster Kennel Club | 2016 Breed Entries: Yorkshire Terrier link to the entry field Also isn't Washington D.C. bordering B.C.? A beautifull spring drive to pick up a puppy.
