By the time the new baby comes home, my older one will be 21 months. Thank you for all of your insight. One of my children is already concerned she will feel upset when I bring the new pup home, I hope it's just a matter of time?!

That is probably a good age to bring home another. She is young enough to still want to play. My older one was well over 9 when I brought the puppies home and you would have though I had just broke his heart. For a few days he wanted nothing to do with me and he is MY dog. I gave him extra attention and love. He was the only one sleeping in my bed at the time as my puppy did not join us in bed until he was there several weeks (the other puppy sleeps with my daughter). He did adjust though. Yours will as well. Do not be upset with the dog if it isn't happy you brought home a new puppy. Just show your dog that you still love just as much as you did before.

I was starting to question if I should have gotten a puppy or not, but then mine came around and started wanting to play with them. They adore him! He is their big brother. Just give it time. It might take a few days, weeks, even months. I only know a few where they never fully got along, but most do so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Just give it time and it will come together.

Yes, it's my biggest fear that she will be upset or not love the new pup. I'm praying it all works out because I never worried with any of my four human children lol!

Adding to what JadeD wrote, don't worry if it is not love at first sight. Sometimes it happens, but not always. My boys were happy to meet each other in our hotel lobby, but when we went back our room, the older one was ready to establish his position. Let the dogs do this. As long as you do not see anything dangerous, don't interfere.

We had some jealousy issues the first few months, but they were easily resolved. Things like establishing eating places and beds.

Make sure your older one has a place to escape the puppy antics when she wants. Max was able to jump on the couch to get away. Teddy couldn't jump that high.

I'm hoping to get some input from anyone who has been there, so keep it coming! I gave my deposit last week to Deb Sillers of amazing yorkies for a february litter, so hopefully one of her mamas will have a little docile boy for us !

OMG!! I'm soooooooo excited for you!!

I'm kind of in the same boat, and cannot contain my excitement. My Scottie will be 22 months by the end of Feb and we're currently waiting on our breeder who is deciding between two show-prospect puppies.

Make sure you give us an update on when the little one comes. Anxious to know how they first get along. I've been obsessed and constantly reading about how to introduce the second puppy.
