| If the coon was rabid, you have been exposed as well by any saliva left on your pup. I would ask your Dr if you should be concerned about yourself as well.

| Wow, You saved her life! I think you really needed to hold her for that hour. How frightening. I have taken Dinky out potty without a leash, but no more. Thanks for sharing. You made a lot of Yorkies safer. |

| I hope Chloe kicked the crap out of that racoon. She came out of it without a scratch - that is one tough cookie!

| Thirty years ago a dog of mine got into a scuffle with a skunk. He had his rabies shot (1 year version) in June and this was in December. The vet insisted on re-vaccinating and I had to quarantine my dog for 30 days. I was the only one allowed around him. We did get the skunk we suspected tested and he was positive for rabies, but all the precautions were done prior to the test results.

| What a scary situation for all! I am glad that Chloe was not harmed but I agree that it may be best to check with your Vet.

| You saved your girls by acting quickly. I know, I was charged by a raccoon in my backyard that was raiding my next door neighbor's trash. I heard the noise and went out there to investigate. Darn thing leaped off the fence, hissing and growling at me while giving chase. I was very lucky I was only steps from the backdoor- was able to get a glimpse at the raccoon before slamming the door shut. I now use a flashlight making sure no eyes are reflecting back at me before I step out into the yard at night. This is a video of a man saving his dog from a raccoon attack. https://youtu.be/P5yHhsVveVk

| I am very glad your babies are safe, that is a terrifying experience. Raccoons do not typically come out during the day- recently we had an ill raccoon come up toward our children in the middle of the day. We ushered them inside but he was gone before I got my gun. I work at a feed and animal supply store on the crossroads of town and the country and in town the raccoons are very aggressive and come out during unusual hours. I had a woman come in who took her yorkies outside to go potty and was attacked while holding her brand new (human) baby- the raccoon literally climbed up her leg. We have a lot of people who want to trap and rehome and they do but if they called fish and wildlife, it is not legal in our area. We have a large, dangerous over population of raccoons and not only is it unfortunate that the town folk drive up the hill and drop them off behind other people's back yards (where they kill their chickens) but it is very risky for them and then when the raccoon is taken from its own territory it is more likely to suffer than to thrive due to challenges with competitions and food sources. I had a lovely papillon for ten years who was attacked by a raccoon, she had puncture wounds and required a clip and clean and a round of antibiotics- I am grateful it was not worse. Raccoons do not belong under our houses or in our back yards. Your priority is to keep your babies safe, I'm so glad your girls are alright.

| I watched a tv episode about raccoons now invading citys and raising their babies on neighborhood trash, restaurants trash, etc. Here in the US. This was sometime ago but I can only imagine it is getting worse. We don't have raccoons here but ferral cats. I'm always with Buddybear as we have one in our yard I'm trying to run off.

I have a friend with a Jack Russell. They have a creek behind their house and I have actually seen this happen. We have had to jump into that creek a few times to drag Buster off of a coon, or vice versa.
