Thanks...right now I think I am crazy who in their right mind would get two dogs as once. LOL. Its like having twins. My whole family thinks I have lost my mind. I know my schedule is going to change. Already I am backing out of a concert in two weeks I committed to because I know I won't be able to leave the dogs that long since it is after work. I won't mind missing some things and the rest I will figure it out as it comes.

Congratulations! Looking forward to photos of your new family members.

With a housekeeper coming in to spend time with them, you might want to consider baby gates or an xpen to block the door and make sure the doggies do not accidentally slip out. We have baby gates to keep the boys from the doors to the outside after Teddy got out once to chase the UPS truck.

Great minds think a like. I bout a baby gate this afternoon. I wanted a really tall one but my entrance is 72 inches and the tallest one I could find is 30 inches. Hopefully the dogs aren't big jumpers. I have know some yorkies to jump pretty high. I felt the ex-pen would be too small for them. Especially since the Foster Mom is pretty insistent I get a Large to XL plastic crate for the two of them before the adoption is complete. The crate would take up the entire ex-pen.

When the house cleaner is cleaning I will tell her to put them in their crate so they don't make a mess.

Keeping my fingers crossed nothing goes wrong this week.

You sound very committed and detail-oriented and you're already anticipating your little ones' abilities. I agree that when the housekeeper is busy, the babies should be confined for their safety. You're going to do great and so are they! Congratulations!

Crazy lol, some years back I went shopping in China town, oh did I mention I am an ex NYer lol Da Bronx, so howdy neighbor, so I am shopping for scarves for my dresser, I came home with the scarves, one 8 week old Poodle and one 8 week old mini Schnauzer, now that's crazy, but crazy fun lol. Two rescues will be will be work as far as them gaining trust in you, and adjusting to their new home, but they will have the comfort of each other. As for the 30 inch high baby gate, a little story first. These two puppies I got yearssss ago, they were appox 5 months old when this incident happened. I kept them in my very large kitchen while I was at work, used a 36 inch high baby gate at the kitchen doorway. I worked 20 minutes from where I lived, I get a call from my landlady one day, she says Joan, you better come home, the puppies are running rampant through the house, I tell her impossible they are gated in the kitchen, she says I hear them running crazy up there, I get in the car, come home, open the door, and there they are, two frozen statues caught in the act lol. They had CLIMBED over the baby gate. I put them back praying they would stay there until I finished work, they did, but, before coming home that night I stopped off and got another 36 inch high baby gate. The next morning I put up the two baby gates one above the other. My doorway was 7 foot high, the gates covered 6 feet 2 inches, only 10 inches at the very top. Off to work I go, noon time I get a call from the landlady, Joan, the dogs are at it again, they are running crazy upstairs, I tell her impossible, there's a 6 + foot high baby gate, they can't get out, so back home I go, I open the door, yep, two frozen statues staring at me lol. I resolved the issue by raising the bottom baby gate 2 inches off the floor, the second gate 3 1/2 above the 2nd baby gate leaving only 6 inches at the very top. What baffles me to this day is, both times they got over the gates I swear that Schnauzer had to have carried that poodle over the gates, the poodle
never climbed anything where as the Schnauzer was always the climber, and how they managed to fit through a 10 inch opening at the top of the gates is still a mystery to me. When terriers have a mission, nothing stops them lol. I suggest getting a 2nd gate, put one above the first one IF they manage to climb out. Your life style will change, but, you will bond and love these two so much you will not notice the changes you have had to make and you will not regret any changes you made for them. Please remember to get these pups to the vet with in 24 to 48 hours after you get them. I do hope you already have picked a vet, call them to make an appointment and get them in ASAP 24 hours would be ideal. Bless you for taking the two of them.

That is a crazy story. I am counting down the hours until they are with me. My brother is coming into town for work next week and my family is getting together for dinner. I already told them sorry can't go unless you come to Queens because it will be the first few days I leave them when I return to work.

I already have them scheduled with the vet for Sunday less than 24 hours after they arrive. I wanted to get that taken care of right away.

I actually have handyman here right now because I seem to be the only one that cannot install a baby gate by myself. I blame it on the baseboards that needed to come out.

Love Leaving Yorkies Alone

I don't work so my girls only get left when I go shopping, and usually Saturdays for about 8 hours. After 8 hours alone they are ok, but if I went out the next day even for a couple of hours, they follow me to the door, jumping and barking and wanting to go with me, they don't want me to go. I usually take them in the car whenever I can. I was curious what the did when I'm not home, so I set up a camera, they did not do much, they would look out the window most of the time waiting for me, and sleep, they would not eat when I was not there, and they did not play with each other. They are pee pad trained, so that goes well. Also when I am not home I always leave the TV on for them. Maybe if you work, you should consider Doggy Daycare or someone who is able to come in and sit with them and take them for a walk. I have a hard time being away from my girls for very long, after about 3 hours I start to worry, my husband thinks I am nuts. Nuts about Yorkies I say.

The decision is really yours. I think you could make it work even with a full-time job, just need to make some sacrifices and lots of commitment to your dog and a dog walker. I think with 2 Yorkies, they are less lonely because they have each other but they still need exercise. This is what I wished someone had told me before I got mine-terriers need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation because they are so smart and stubborn!

Until my dog was 8 years old, he walks an hour a day and on top of that he needs playtime! Now that he is 9.5 years old, he walks 30-40 mins/day and play time on top of that. I have never walked so much in my life until I got him lol. I do it because he loves it-sniffing every glass blades but after 9 years, I learn to love walks as well.

Crazy but very true lol, If I had not gone home and saw these two in the living room I would never have believed it.
I think I know the kind of gate you are installing, the first ones I got for those lil monkeys worked by fitting them between the inside of the molding, there was a bar you pushed down on and this forced the ends of the baby gates against the door molding. I don't think they sell them any more. Years later when I got my yorkies I got one that had gated door on it, I had a problem with the raised floor saddle, but I was able to work around that. For yearsssss I have not had the need for baby gates, so I don't know they are selling anymore. Well I see you are very committed to the safety of these two babies you are getting. Great that you are getting them to the vet right away, that's so important. The first week with rescues are important as they are in strange surroundings with new smells and you, a stranger, although they will have each other for comfort they still may be scared and confused. Sad that you have to miss a family get together, but these two cannot be left alone so soon after getting them. It's just wonderful of you to not break these two babies up and took both of them. You will never regret if. It will be work at the beginning, new to you, but you will sort things out, get a schedule / routine set up. You will come to wonder how did you ever live without them lol. You will never be alone or lonely, and much laughter will enter your life with these two. When I was commuting from Pa. to my NY job ppl would ask "you live alone" I would say noooo, I live with my dog lol.
Where ever you are getting these babies from make sure you ask what food they are eating and have that in the house for them, don't change their food, if you are not happy with what they are eating change it later. These two will be making many adjusts changing foods now should be avoided until they are well settled in. Have you picked out names for them or leaving them with the names they have?
