Crazy lol, some years back I went shopping in China town, oh did I mention I am an ex NYer lol Da Bronx, so howdy neighbor, so I am shopping for scarves for my dresser, I came home with the scarves, one 8 week old Poodle and one 8 week old mini Schnauzer, now that's crazy, but crazy fun lol. Two rescues will be will be work as far as them gaining trust in you, and adjusting to their new home, but they will have the comfort of each other. As for the 30 inch high baby gate, a little story first. These two puppies I got yearssss ago, they were appox 5 months old when this incident happened. I kept them in my very large kitchen while I was at work, used a 36 inch high baby gate at the kitchen doorway. I worked 20 minutes from where I lived, I get a call from my landlady one day, she says Joan, you better come home, the puppies are running rampant through the house, I tell her impossible they are gated in the kitchen, she says I hear them running crazy up there, I get in the car, come home, open the door, and there they are, two frozen statues caught in the act lol. They had CLIMBED over the baby gate. I put them back praying they would stay there until I finished work, they did, but, before coming home that night I stopped off and got another 36 inch high baby gate. The next morning I put up the two baby gates one above the other. My doorway was 7 foot high, the gates covered 6 feet 2 inches, only 10 inches at the very top. Off to work I go, noon time I get a call from the landlady, Joan, the dogs are at it again, they are running crazy upstairs, I tell her impossible, there's a 6 + foot high baby gate, they can't get out, so back home I go, I open the door, yep, two frozen statues staring at me lol. I resolved the issue by raising the bottom baby gate 2 inches off the floor, the second gate 3 1/2 above the 2nd baby gate leaving only 6 inches at the very top. What baffles me to this day is, both times they got over the gates I swear that Schnauzer had to have carried that poodle over the gates, the poodle
never climbed anything where as the Schnauzer was always the climber, and how they managed to fit through a 10 inch opening at the top of the gates is still a mystery to me. When terriers have a mission, nothing stops them lol. I suggest getting a 2nd gate, put one above the first one
IF they manage to climb out. Your life style will change, but, you will bond and love these two so much you will not notice the changes you have had to make and you will not regret any changes you made for them. Please remember to get these pups to the vet with in 24 to 48 hours after you get them. I do hope you already have picked a vet, call them to make an appointment and get them in ASAP 24 hours would be ideal. Bless you for taking the two of them.
