| Take Yorkie on Vacation? Do you guys take your Yorkies on vacation? I haven't been on an extended vacation for a while, but we do take our Yorkie when we have smaller road trips (2 hours each way). Are hotels pet-friendly? Airlines? Just curious... |

| JosephM, if you're traveling in California, there's book called The Dog Lover's Companion to California. They give listings of pet-friendly places. Airlines will usually let small dogs travel up in the cabin, but you have to pay an extra fee each way and your dog has to stay confined in an airline-approved carrier under the seat. Anytime I travel, I always feel so sad about leaving Otis. Then when I'm actually on vacation, I realize that he probably would have been miserable on the airplane, weather change, etc....then I become thankful that I left him at home. I'm lucky I have great dog-sitters. |

| Good resources to know about. So I take it you can't just hold your Yorkie in your lap the whole time? Anyone taken a Yorkie on a plane? |

Well, right before take-off, I took him out and hid him in my jacket. No one saw. I could not imagine leaving him under the seat during a loud and scary take-off!! The airplane ride back is one precious moment I will never forget. Otis and I had only known each other for about 20 minutes, but the entire airplane ride back to SFO, he was looking up at me with his chin on my chest, still hiding in my jacket. He did not make a peep, and he was sooo still, and his eyes never left my face! It was bonding time. When we landed, the lady next to me FINALLY saw Otis in my jacket and said, "Whoa...you had him there the whole time??" | |

| Heheh... When Yoda was small enough, everyone was oblivious to him. Now that he's so big, he almost always has at least his head sticking out when he's in my jacket and thus is seen most of the time. I still think it's sweet when he lays on me and peeps his head up and looks at me. When we first got him, he was very timid and scared of everything. Took him a few days to get over not being with his brothers and sisters and mommy. I just wonder if Yorkies get scared on the plane, as usually Yoda doesn't yappity yap. I just wouldn't want him being so scared he barks the whole plane ride or whatnot. |

| I take Kasey with me everywhere on the plane. I think she flies more than most humans! She has a carrier that fits under the seat in front of me, and nobody ever notices she is there!!

| She is SO well behaved. Her carrier is almost like a crate for her. She gets in there, sleeps, and never makes a sound!

| How about using the bathroom for those longer flights? Do you wait until you've landed to take her potty? |

| Yes, most of the time she can wait. Otherwise, when changing planes, I go outside, let her go to the bathroom, and check back in.

| Great Little Traveler! Our Higgins is a wonderful traveler -- in fact that is what he has all of his little life so far! We acquired him while camping in our 17' Casita camper (just like Bettyanne's) in Florida this winter. He entered his first house just this week and was TERRIFIED! But our grandkids soon had him feeling right at home and then there was their cat to chase.......We are all finally home in Maine, as of this afternoon, and you would think that Higgins has lived here all his life. However, he did ask to go out just a little while ago and as soon as we stepped out the door he went running over to the camper and up the step, wanting to go inside the only little house he has ever known. It was really cute. |

| I work at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno and it's "pet friendly" w/restrictions and extra room charge. I know of a couple other motels in town (La Quinta) that are also ok w/our canines. Piper and I haven't traveled, per se, we just run around town and go everywhere together; I'm very fortunate that my little girl is patient, well-behaved and enjoys shopping! |
