![]() Sassyyorkies is correct. My Duncan is 10 months old and weighs 12 lbs. at the moment. Last night my son brought over his miniature schnauzer who is 6 months old. Duncan looked like a little puppy compared to my son's dog. My son's dog's legs were longer than Duncan is tall! Even though Duncan weighs 12 lbs., he is small compared to most dogs. He doesn't realize it though. When we go to training classes, he always scopes out the bigger dogs; sheepdogs, boxers, mastiffs, etc., to play with! He is a little dog in a big dog's body!

YorkieTalk Newbie! | ![]() Thanks everyone for your help. I'm not too worried. I just can't wait to find out what she will look like! She can't be that big. Her mom was only 7 pounds and her dad was 5 pounds but if I were to use that predictor calculation she would be 16 pounds! That would be crazy! And I'm not sure how she could pass up her parents by that much. It's hard to believe that she is 4 pounds already. her shoulders are only about 5 inches off the floor. That doesn't seem that big to me.... |

| ![]() Keep in mind that yorkies back in the day were much bigger. They still have those genes in them and every once in a while the pups can get larger than standard even though the pup's parents are standard size.

| ![]() Yorkie's comes in a lot of sizes. Its what you personally prefer. If shes too big for your definition of a Yorkie then shes too big. 10pds as a full adult is my preference. |

| ![]() Thanks, Eandtstarr. I think he's pretty awesome but I'm also prejudiced towards big fat yorkies! Diana |

YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() Welcome!!!! Congrats on your new baby! I would say that yes she is big for a yorkie of that age. She will probably be a bigger Yorkie, but I am sure she is a Yorkie if you have AKC papers on her. As far as her parents size.... you don't know if her grandparents were teapots. I have 2 puppies from the same litter and keep up with most of the litter mates. The parents were 4 1/2 and 10 lbs. One puppy is 4.2 lbs (the runt) and another puppy is about 6 lbs. My 2 pups are 6 1/2 and 7 lbs. The biggest and first born puppy though, he weighs 14 lbs! They are all from the same litter and yet he is twice what any of the others are. It is possible for the smaller parents to give off a large offspring because it could come from a grandparent. Your puppy is adorable! Love the puppy and you won't care how big it gets. Don't listen if you take it places to people telling you it is a silky. They try to tell me that my AKC registered 7 lb Yorkie is a silky when I go to petsmart! He is actually a fairly decent representation of the Yorkie Standard. Not perfect, but not bad either and Petsmart still tries to tell me I have a Silky because he doesn't have hair on his ear apparently to be a true Yorkie. LOL

![]() ![]() ![]() I have Yorkies of all sizes, from 2lbs up to 18lbs.....I adore them all! My big boys are sturdy and rough house and run like maniacs and play like lunatics, all over the back yard! How refreshing it is to have big, healthy, exhuberant boys!! They barrel thru the swimming pools I have for them, pulling the pools all over the play area,.... they are effervescent and full of amazing, exuberant life! My breeders are all between 5-7 lbs....they are adventurous, inquisitive, energetic, and love to chase birds and explore the back yard, pick all the low hanging fruit from the fig tree, the satsuma trees, and the dwarf peach tree, barreling through the water park I have set up for them, playing like crazy ladies and gentlemen......and then, kept completely separated from all the crazies, there are my itty bitty tinies that were born in litters where brothers and sisters were "standard" size Yorkies, but these tinies were throwbacks in the parents pedigrees. I keep all my tiny little Yorkies....I have never sold any yorkie that I did not expect to reach at least 4.5 lbs, and never will, I just do not deal in "tinies". LOVE them all, and enjoy your big baby, who, oh by the way, MAY just stop growing when he hits 4-6 months of age, and then he may be only 7-8 lbs full grown....remember, what your baby is governed by, is what is in his pedigree, what is behind his parents for several generations....you can not go STRICTLY by what his parent weigh! Go back and look at pups from 7-9 generations behind each of those parents! THAT will tell you what weight range your baby will most likely fall into... | |

| ![]() Aww , your baby is adorable .. While I don't consider my boy big I guess he is compared to the Yorkie Standard . Oscar was 4 lbs @ 11 weeks old . He is now almost 4 years old & 11 lbs . We also have an 80 lb Airedale so an 11 lb dog is tiny to me ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
