My yorkie is 7 weeks and 3 pounds. Is she big for a yorkie? I am new to this community and also a first time owner to a little yorkie. I just bought my little yorkie Boo who is 7 weeks right now! And I am in LOVE!! She is absolutely perfect! But I took her to the vet and she is 3 pounds already! Is that big for a yorkie puppy at 7 weeks? I'm trying to figure out how much she will weigh and what she will look like when she's older. Since I'm new to yorkies I've been reading that they lighten up as they get older. I was wondering if that's true? My little puppy doesn't look that big but if course I don't know what they are supposed to look like at this age. Thanks so much in advance! :) |

Welcome to YT! She is adorable. It's hard to predict size. That's part of the fun of having a puppy. You just wait and see how they will turn out. Supposedly you can triple their weight at 6 weeks. |
And I actually just weighed her again. She is 4 pounds! She's grown since the last time she was weighed! I didn't think it was possible for a 7 week old yorkie to be 4 pounds! |
We have some on here that had pups around 5 lbs and they are now about 16-18 lbs. While the standard is 7 lbs and under, there definitely are larger yorkies. We affectionately call them teapots. It is a possibility that it could be a silky or yorkie/silky mix. They are very similar breeds. Silkys are larger and with more of a longer muzzle and triangular head. Yorkies are a little shorter in the muzzle and a bit more rounder head. Usually I would be weary about having a 7 week old puppy but since he is on the larger side I wouldn't worry, as much. Still be on the look out if he does not eat or gets lethargic. Pups this age should be eating every few hours. Another thought I had was perhaps he is older than you have been told. Some people only want to get a pup younger than so-and-so age. So it's possible he's older thus larger and the breeder told you a different age. But usually unscrupulous breeder would lie and say a pup is older than it really is to make it seem like it is very small. And yes, they do lighten up as the age. It usually takes about 3 years for them to get their full adult coloring. |
Wow I actually think she could be a silky the only thing is I have AKC papers. Is it possible they are false? Does anybody know any other characteristics of a silky? |
Congratulations on your new puppy!😀 I know no matter what size it becomes you will be so happy with your little yorkie. Even the teapot yorkies seem small in comparison to other breeds and most yorkies have BIG personalities. I have never seen one that couldn't win your heart. Have fun with your new little companion!! |

Oh I'm so sorry there's a question about if your puppy is a silky or yorkie.!! I'm sure you can find answers with some research. To me your puppy looks like a yorkie because there are so many different looks even on this site. There are big ones little ones, leggy ones short ones but still they are yorkies. Some have larger ears some have small ears there is a standard AKC has for what they are suppose to look like. Hope you find your answers! |

Mine are lighter in color than standard, but as far as I know, the silky color standard is pretty similar to a yorkie's. |

We have a member here "Britster" her boy is about 16 lbs and one of the smartest and well trained I have seen. the good thing about the larger ones are you don't have to worry as much about them getting hurt. |
