| New yorkie mom Hi everyone, This Wednesday I pick up my 13 week old yorkie, Georgia! She is my first puppy but my second dog. We lost our beloved Monet last August (rescued shih tzu pom). We had Monet for 11 wonderful years, rescued her when she was almost 3. Anyhow, I plan on feeding The Honest Kitchen along with homemade food. Her treats wil be vegan/vegetarian and of course limited! I ordered the turkey and the base of The Honest Kitchen. Just curious if the quinoa and chicken would be too much protein? My cats (persians and himalayans) eat grain free hard (NOW! by PetCurean for about 10 years) and Organix soft food mixed with raw spinach and 'some' organic pure pumpkin. I'm pretty knowledgeable with cats as I've had them all of my life and have dealt with A LOT of illnesses (seizures, CRF, arthritis etc...). Any tips and advise is much appreciated! At her 12 week check up he was 3.6lbs, guess she'll be 6-7lbs full grown. She had an inguinal hernia and the vet said she would spay at the same time and Georgia is healing...not the point of this post but I am waiting until her 2nd check up from her surgery to wean her from Royal Canin puppy. As for her 3rd set of vaccines...because she will NEVER be kenneled do I skip the kennel vaccine? What about the Rabies? She will get that vaccine, just not sure if I should wait a little longer?! She is pee pee pad trained and I plan on keeping it that way. Our winters can get up to -52! I only work part-time (3 hours a day, 5 days a week for the school board so holidays and summers off ). | Congrats on the new baby! I'm not too educated on food but I hope she's doing ok! As far as vaccines id ask the vet what they recommend for her but definitely do rabies almost everywhere like grooming and such need that on record

| Thank you! I definitely plan on doing rabies. Just not sure if it should be done at 3rd set or later on within her first year. |

| IMHO Rabies should always be separated from other vaccinations, in fact my vet will not give Rabies with any other vacs. The worst thing you can do is over vaccinate ( too many vacs at one time). Too many vets are not on board with new vaccine protocol & there is just no good reason to give so many vacs all at one time. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi - congrats on your almost-home baby! On the food, it should be balanced properly if it's AAFCO certified and from Honest Kitchen. I prefer higher protein diets, rather than a higher carb diet. On the rabies - I try to wait until 6mths of age or so. And no, I would not get the kennel cough vaccine...it's not a core vaccine.

YT 1000 Club Member | The rabies is required, so I would definitely get it, but get it as a separate shot all on it's own. My babies are a week away from their last set of shots and then they go back 3 weeks later to get their rabies and they are done for this year, until they get fixed at 6 months old. Where I live rabies is required on all dogs over 20 weeks of age, so waiting until they are 6 months could get you in trouble here. I plan to do it right at 20 weeks because that fits in their schedule nicely and it is when it is required. I am not planning to get the kennel cough vaccine for my puppies. I can not imagine a baby being fixed that early though. I am waiting until my puppies hit 6 months to get them fixed. Creeping up on me fast already as they are nearly 4 months old now.
