YT 500 Club Member | Incident report and update :) So I had to take izzy in to the vet last week a couple times concerning her violent scratching at her ear. When the first visit and hopeful cure didn't have the results we hoped for, I had to take her back in to have her sedated so they could get a better look at her ear canal and eardrum. I know the dangers of it, so it wasn't a shock to me when he went over the procedure and also the possible dangers of doing so. But even knowing all that, the second I went to sign the paperwork, I felt a tightness in my chest and I started getting hot. I went to my car to sit in the air conditioning. It wasn't really helping . And then my vet knocked on my window which surprised me, and told me izzy was coming out of sedation and was a little wobbly and wanted her mama. I was so relieved to hear that, because I had such a knot of fear in my stomach. So I went back in and we went back to his room to discuss everything. And then it got hotter. And hotter. And my vision started to pinhole. He was getting smaller. So I interrupted him and asked him to take izzy because I didn't want to drop her. He said you look really pale, yes let me take her, and he handed her to the vet tech and walked me to a chair, and that lovely man stood there for twenty minutes fanning me and talking me through my inconveniently timed and embarrassing panic attack until my boyfriend got there... I don't know what came over me to trigger that. I never have those in public. I did that day. And he actually talked me through it before my muscles cramped up any farther than my fingers. So my poor boyfriend showed up to both his girls wobbly and woozy. But the treatment he gave izzy for the tear on her eardrum was effective and she is all good and well now. And other than the eardrum issue Izzy is in perfect health. Toby isn't itching as badly. And now that we've moved into a larger house with a huge yard, they are both happy heathens. We are root tilling the yard tomorrow and putting in grass so they can run themselves ragged . And they seem happier here so I'm happy.thats my incident report and update for now. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh my goodness - you poor girls -- all shaky together!! It sounds like you just got really overwhelmed with everything and/or maybe a medical office setting made you feel funny...? Glad you're feeling so much better. And, it sounds like they've solved the ear issue, which has to be so relieving!

| Anesthesia and sedation really are not that risky as long as the right blood work and protocol are followed. But I get the worrying I have anxiety and panic attacks and it's not fun. Glad everything is going well.

| That was so very scary to read what happened to you and I am so glad to know that you and your baby are doing better. What a wonderful human being your vet was to help you through it like he did. |

YT 500 Club Member | Yeah I think he's a keeper. He's not my usual vet. My usual vet is older than dirt and he has a cadence to his voice and has to hold his chin down to his chest to talk. He isn't real chatty but he's never been wrong... But I think they are starting to phase him out because I keep ending up with the one that handled me for my panic attack, and I like him just fine. He went to school with my usual vet and they have the same calm knowing demeanor that makes me trust them. Plus he's got a Texan accent and I love men with Texan accents. And he didn't seem at all bothered with fanning me for twenty minutes either. Very nice man. He also told me that from what he could tell izzys collapsing trachea hasn't progressed . We'd have to do X-rays to know for sure but when he did something with her throat she didn't cough at all. That was a relief too. I think just the thought of something going wrong sent me into anxiety. I couldn't stand it if I lost one right now. I'd be one sad chicken. |

| Well, I think that is just great that you have got yourself a vet that you are comfortable with and is so calming for you and so knowledgeable as your other vet and has that great Texas accent that you really like. Sounds real good to me. I sure can understand about not wanting to lose another one like you said. It does cause major upset to think about something like that.

YT 500 Club Member | I was really worried about finding a new vet once mine retired, too... Because years ago when he treated my Pitt bull , Chewy, for his chronic violent throwing up , I seriously thought chewy was dying. I would feed him a cup of food and he would throw up an ungodly amount of complete swollen pieces every meal. It was unimaginable. He told me it was separation anxiety and I thought no way. That is beyond anxiety. No way. So he said we could put him on some med that keeps their stomach working so the food gets processed and maybe that would help to keep it down and give him nutrients, but he seriously doubted it work... Because it was separation anxiety. We tried it. He was right . Didn't work. So I went to four other vets who prescribed the Same medication but they were absolutely certain of the cause and one had me buying super expensive food and all these meds, and nothing worked. So I went back to my vet and I asked what I can do to make this stop . He said quit your job or take him to work. He needs to be able to be near you and that's all that will cure this right now. So I quit my job and took him everywhere with me and he never threw up again. He grew out of it because when I started working again he was fine. So after that I never second guessed him again. And he's never been wrong either. Sometimes he humors me but I can see his little smile and I know he thinks I overthink things, but he still humors me while telling me he's doing just that...lol. He gives me a way to prove myself wrong and I feel better having made sure of whatever and he's always right and never says a word... Just smiles and wobbles cause he's like 90. I love knowledgable old people. But this new one has it in the bag. And I'm glad I don't have to start over somewhere new looking for a new witch doctor. |

| Thanks for sharing that great story of your wise old vet. It was an inspiring story of his caring and wisdom. It is great you have the same confidence in your new vet and I have been thinking about him and what a remarkable person he must be. I doubt if most vets would have stayed with you for 20 minutes and fanned you and helped you out that way. The most I think they would have done would be for 5 minutes and then helped you out to the waiting room and had one of their assistants help you out. There are some really great doctors out there for dogs and humans and I am glad you have been fortunate to find two of the vets.
