YT 500 Club Member | Sleeping with your baby My little Yorkie boy is 16 weeks. As of now he sleeps in his crate which is on my bed. I want to be as close as possible to hear and see him, easier to go out to potty. He is also a big jumper. So, would it be a good idea to let him sleep in bed with me. My other Yorkie RIP, always slept with me. There's nothing like having a fur baby to cuddle with. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

| How about putting a ramp/steps next to the bed so he won't be flying off the bed? Depends on the pup but I've had really good luck with the ramp myself. Especially with little Zoey (5.5 lbs). She wouldn't use the steps but she does great with the ramp! |

| When my pups were able to jump up on the bed, that is when they started to sleep on the bed, how ever, all my babies were 10 Lbs and over. 5 and 7 Lb babies should not be jumping off beds. Please be very careful with your little baby.

| I think it is a good idea to switch off. There have been times when bc of either Dinky's issues or ours that he needed to be crated at night. It's nice that he can do either way without feeling that sleeping in the crate is a punishment. Actually, I think he sleeps really well in the crate. It's DH who thinks Dinky feels bad if he needs to go in! |

| Hi, Sunni is 6 mos old today and weighs 10lbs. When she was smaller she would fly thru the air, so I was afraid of having her on the bed. I tried the puppy stairs but that didn't work at all. I just couldn't train her to use them no matter how much time I spent on trying. I ended up getting the kitchen step stool, which is 2 good sized steps and using that. There are rubber treds on them so I think that helps..and it just feels sturdy. It took exactly 5 minutes and 4 treats to teach her to go up and down. She hasn't jumped off the bed since or tried to jump onto it |

YT 500 Club Member | Steps Thanks everyone for advice. We do have some very nice steps. The problem is Ruger will go up but jumps down. I'm working on this. I have to be near him when he's on the couch. I will tell him to use steps when gettin down. If I don't catch him in time he flies off the couch. It's just that he is so much in a hurry & won't take time for his steps. Any advice on this? Thanks |

| Sunni is my first Yorkie, lol. My advice is to buckle up and be prepared to laugh a lot....and just when you think you have things worked out and safe, think again!! Sunni outsmarts me everytime I turn around I dont know how much you play or excersize your puppy, but that seems to be the only way for me to get her relaxed enough to slow down. I also end up working on training for a good 10 minutes or so when she's zooming as we now call it around here. My son will say, uh oh mom Sunni's zooming again, haha. He also scolded her and told her "that is NOT how a lady behaves, Sunni" |

YT 1000 Club Member | I love the name Ruger. We almost named our english setter that. He is a black setter with white spots, reverse your normal coloring for a setter. So, when we got him we thought his coloring looked like a gunmetal gray so my husband decided to pick a gun name. He wanted to name him Winchester and I said, sure, when he is running up the sidewalk because he got out of the house I will be yelling Winnie! Not gonna happen. So, he decided to name him Remington, and I said REMY! Then it was Ruger and I loved it!!!! My son however insisted we were calling the dog Booger and was very upset with us. So, no Ruger for him, maybe our next dog though. Then we came up with Gatlin and so that is his name. Ruger is still a possibility for a future dog though! I let my Yorkie sleep with me. Not sure when the new puppy will, but I am sure he will eventually sleep in my bed.

| I have had very small dogs in the past who slept with me including a toy chihuahua who would sleep under the covers. But mommy doesn't think it is a good idea with such a small dog. Don't tell her but we like to sleep together on the couch when mommy isn't around! LOL |

| Max and Sasha sleep with me every night. I have had to adjust my sleeping habits slightly ( I turn over regularly) but we have no problems. They know when it is bedtime and they run to the gate waiting for me to open it so we can go upstairs. Boy, I really spoil these dogs.

YT 1000 Club Member | Rasta takes naps with me and sleeps in our bed when my husband isn't home because of work. Veau isn't completely housetrained yet so I won't let her on our bed. They're the best alarm systems lol. |

| My First girl Chanel was 4 pounds and she slept with us pretty much every night. She also napped periodically in her bed beside ours during the day. Our New Baby, Roxie, has only been with 5 weeks( Currently 1lb 12oz at 17 weeks) and at our new place, because the house is so cold at night ( Gets into the low 50's sometimes) We decided it would be safer to have her with us. She "Needs" to be covered up- but she tends to fall asleep on top of her blankets and will then just shiver until one of us covers her up( Day or night).I never saw a dog who didn't know how to burrow under covers- but she apparently doesn't. If she is with us we can make sure she is nice and cozy. But to get her accustomed to being in bed with us, we placed a folded blanket as a little mini mattress in between our pillows and she sleeps there- covered up with a little baby blanket. If one of us feels her moving- its usually because she needs to "Go" and we..um..actually "I"- get up and take her. She is sleeping through the night now ( 8 hours) but I still don't trust her not to fall off the bed if we allow her to wander during the night- so she will stay between the pillows until she is old enough to know better. She also hasn't learned fear of heights yet and launched herself off the bed a few days ago when I jumped up for a second to answer the phone. I caught her in mid air after almost having a heart attack when I turned around and saw her flying through the air legs outstretched like gravity didn't exist! She looked like a flying squirrel! But it taught me that she is MUCH faster than I gave her credit for..and I am much slower that I thought I was. Thank GOD she was flying towards me and I got in a lucky grab and caught her. By the way Chanel fell off the bed 2 times during her life. The first time was before she had a bed next to us and she woke me up whimpering cuz she was cold! LOL. The next time, after we had put her bed in our room, we just woke up and she was snuggled in her bed next to us. But she made sure she never fell again and she would get right up next to me with her head in the crook of my shoulder to make darn sure she didn't end up on the floor again. Until Roxie has that kind of sense ( Prolly a year or 2) She'll stay in her perch between our pillows. When the weather warms up and it doesn't get so cold in our room at night- I'll experiment with putting her in her crate next to us and see how she does. It is very convenient to have them comfortable with either option. We did try a ramp with Chanel-but Chanel never used it...I need to get it out and see if Roxie does any better. But one of my friends dogs just seriously hurt herself falling off the ramp- so that makes me nervous too. I think I am more comfortable just making sure she stays put until I put her down. Hopefully you have a king size bed( rueful grins) Not sure it this would work with 2 adults in a smaller bed. But that's my 2 cents. Hope it helps.
