My typical dog I have gotten because someone got a dog and then decided it was too big, too loud, too hard to train etc. I don't care how big these get, or if they are difficult to train. They will go to training classes because even though I know how to train they will benefit from the social interaction.

We picked the first puppy and then we are also taking the last puppy. All the puppies born have homes lined up and will be loved and they are all going to friends/family of the person who owns the dogs.

Sorry if you don't approve, but I bet these will be better than the average dog I have gotten in my life. I have had 2 purebred (with papers) english setters given to me and one of them I still have and he is great. The other one died of cancer at age 4. I would rather take my chances on these puppies.

There was no reason for your friend to have breed these dogs. You should only breed to better the breed. What would have happened if the female died? How would you have felt? Plenty of dogs that need love out there way to many to be bring anymore dogs into this world unless they are to better the breed. Also just because a dog has papers does not mean they were from a reputable breeder. I'm just shocked someone would put their friends wants over the health of their dog and all other unloved dogs in this world. Just such a shame. I'm sure the lines of these two dogs are also unknown so you could be looking at some seriously terrible genetic issues.

Most shelters will sign the dogs over to reputable rescues so I'm guessing you are not referring to a reputable rescue.

Neither Our shelter nor the neighbor one, spay or neuter before placement. Unaltered animals are sold on a daily basis. They do offer a coupon good for a $50 discount towards altering that is only good at participating vets, which of course just jack up their fees by $50, so its a wash. There is no requirement to spay or neuter any animal purchased from the shelter.

Our shelter sells dogs. It does not give them away. Again, there is no spaying or neutering done prior to purchase at our shelter, so it would not "save" money by giving the animals to rescues to avoid altering costs.

Flint, Michigan. Admittedly we have a shelter with well known issues. Myself and hundreds of others, picketed in front of the courthouse to draw attention to the problems at the shelter, which began a movement to get the director ousted. By reaching out to County Commissioners who appoint that position, and canvassing on their behalf prior to the November elections, we were able to bring about the start of a change. But things are no where near where they need to be.

I dont understand the need to criticize anyone for things that have already happened. Lecturing and making someone feel bad isn't going to undo any situation. Seems more reasonable to just try to support each other. I am beginning to get a complex because I have a rescued Yorkie…I really love her. She's an extremely smart little puppy and the star of our puppy classes, lol. She learns things as soon as she's taught. She very well could be a pure Yorkie, but I will never know. She's been spayed and I don't really have a need to know because she is a pet and was never going to breed.

I get whats being said, but I don't understand the need to keep on repeating and piling on to hurt someones feelings. I know I wouldn't be able to take it. Being judged is a rotten feeling.

I'm not sure who your referring to? I don't think any one who buys from a reputable breeder is bad or anyone who rescues. My problem is with non reputable breeding and breeding done not to better the breed sometimes this is done because of just not knowing or someone else might read this who doesn't know so it is a great chance to educate about breeding and what is reputable and what is not.

Our shelter is the same way. You pay more for altered animals ($50 I think), but they do adopt out unaltered($25) animals as well. I think they have you sign paperwork stating you'll have them fixed though within a certain time period. In Tennessee, I went with one of my sorors to a shelter to pick a puppy and they adopted a female chihuahua out to her unfixed(with no spay contract). It just depends on the shelter.

Well to me this would seem like it could be where we could cut down on some probably accidental breedings if all shelters spayed a neutered. I'm sure some happen with some of those non fixed dogs. What really sucks for the poor dog is if it came from a really terrible situation and then is used to breed.

Some areas of the country will not just sign over a dog to a reputable 501c rescue. It depends on the state and the rules of the county boards etc...

I work with a 503c reputable rescue, they only adopt out spayed and neutered animals and do health care and Microchipping. They get animals from city shelters and it doesn't cost them anything because the city is happy to get rid of the excess. The shelter I work at gets yorkies all the time, we even got in AKC puppies once. I would say look into both. Whether you adopt or buy from a breeder make sure you do your research. The rescue or breeder should be reputable, do health checks and either spay/neuter or encourage you to. Rescues can be great dogs and they can be difficult dogs but the same can be said about any dog. Sometimes you can't tell a puppies personality and even if you know where it comes from it doesn't gaurantee anything. Go with your gut and if you have any problems or questions you have YT.

For me no one has ever asked me that question. Most people that know me well, know that of 11 Yorkies I have had, 8 of them have been adopted.

Where a person obtains a dog is their business.

As to the rescue bashing here, a legitimate rescue does not "sell" dogs. When you make comments like that, please at least mention who the group is because that is NOT the norm. Also, in defense of shelters....they don't "sell" dogs either. Taking animals in, no matter how you look at it, is not cheap. Maybe they don't spay neuter, but they have paid employees, they feed and care for those animals and there are utility bills. Sure some are better than others; but that goes for rescues and breeders and honestly anyone!

I tried to rescue, but unless you want a bully breed or a cat it's nearly impossible in my area. There are small breed rescues, but it's extremely hard to get approved, the wait is years long, and most of the dogs are over 10 years old. I wish small shelter dogs from the south would get sent here, but it just doesn't happen enough.

A family member was willing to drive from NJ to TX to pick up 2 10 year old siblings the rescue wanted to keep together, but they don't allow long distance adoptions.

Not all rescues will adopt out of state because they fear what might happen it if does not work out....they are afraid they won't get their dogs back. Legitimate worry.

I have done many out of state adoptions throughout the years. What I will say is that I will not allow a pup to go somewhere I am not willing to go to if something happens and the adoption falls through.

When I lived up north I did wait for 2 years to adopt a small pup. It is true that there are not as many in some areas.

I posted some pics of him in my thread under Yorkie pics about the puppies being born. They will be toward the end of it. He is very cute.

I don't know why people on here feel the need to harass and attack others just because we get dogs in an unconventional way.

My friend happens to be a real country gal who grew up around animals being born and so breeding her dog was not a big deal and she wanted to anyway, but when she saw how much I loved her Yorkie and asked if I would want a puppy she knew that at least 1 puppy already would have a home and as far as the others, I took the first and then I took the last one. They all have good homes with people she knows.

Not everyone wants to spend a ton of money on a "purebred" dog. Honestly, once you get them fixed their papers are worthless in my opinion. I for one am sick of being attacked on here because of it. Those puppies will be loved and well cared for. I know more about their history than any other dog I have EVER owned, including the one purebred that my husband bought me when we were dating.

Sorry if people don't like it, but it isn't your problem and all of these puppies have homes.

That is so unbelievably common many of you would probably be shocked. Rescues are inundated with yorkies these days and not just from the sources you have named. I have had plenty of yorkies who were sold by reputable breeders...often they are chipped and the breeder just signs the dog over to us.

If you are going to call rescues pet flippers, I honestly think you need to name them. Your words are offensive and sounds like you include all rescues in your area which I highly doubt is true.
