YT 500 Club Member | Ruger home 2 weeks Ok, this Saturday my 12 week old Yorkie Ruger will be here with us for 2 weeks. He's doing ok on outside potty. Sometimes he will pee & poop outside and immediately go again inside. His poop outside is huge for such a little guy - 2.4 lbs. so I would think he was satisfied when out???. Any thoughts? I haven't left him alone yet. He has an x pen and a crate. Should I start leaving him a couple of hours? Really worry, but need to start back on my routine. Please advise. Shicks Love my Ruger Thanks |

| Hi, So how is your Ruger doing? Congratulations on getting your new Yorkie. When I got my Joey I was also concerned about leaving him alone as he was so tiny. I got him also when he was about 12 weeks old. I have a large metal pen and I put everything in it for him,his bed and water and toys and potty papers. I ended up just leaving him alone sometimes for a couple hours and he did fine then. He was protected in his pen and had all he needed but I was nervous of course and was always eager to get back home to him but he was always fine. Now he is almost 5 and he has a fit when I do leave and a fit when I come home. I still leave him in his pen because he would run out the door after me when I left and when I got home and brought all the groceries in the house so he is best left in his pen. If the size of his poo concerns you I would ask your vet. I have no idea what to tell you about that. Hope you do well with your new baby and welcome to Yorkie Talk.

| You could always start out with just 30 minutes at first and then increase it gradually. I think doing it that way helps to decrease their chances of getting separation anxiety. You could always setup a webcam to just to monitor them to see how they react. Thankfully my little mainly sleeps which is what I want. That lets me know that she is mentally stable and not suffering from separation anxiety. Heck sometimes she sleeps so hard, she doesn't even hear me come in. |

| Hi Schicks, That is the hard thing when you go outside for a little bit and hear them crying. I am sure it breaks your heart but you do good when you only let him out when he is quiet. That does not work for my Joey. If I waited to let him out till he was quiet he might never leave the pen. ha ha.He is going to scream and carry on as long as he wants even when I ignore him. I have tried all they say to do and it does not work with him. I wish you better luck than I have had. I would try the video cam myself if that is what you have. It might give you some idea of what he does even for a short time like 30 minutes. Best wishes. Last edited by Silver Lace; 04-13-2015 at 09:59 AM. |
