He is already on heartworm pills. And yes the groomer wants to see proof of the vaccinations.

The information that Dr. Schultz has from his 40 years of studies claims titers are a great tool to determine if a dog has been previously been vaccinated. A positive titer shows the pup had been exposed to the antigen, whether from nature or a syringe. This info will prevent a pup from being unnecessarily vaccinated again. If the pup already has antibodies administering a second vaccine will have absolutely no immunizing effect. You can't immunize an already immunized pup. So in this case a titer is a useful tool.

Once a dog has a positive titer, he is considered protected for life. This means he no longer requires more vaccinations (most of the core vaccines have been shown to protect dogs for 7 to 15 years). If the dog doesn’t require any other vaccinations, then why are the titers being repeated?

“The patient receives no benefit and may be placed at serious risk when an unnecessary vaccine is given” says Dr. Ronald Schultz. ”Few or no scientific studies have demonstrated a need for cats or dogs to be revaccinated.” Clearly, not only repeating a vaccination, but repeating a titer is unnecessary. Although repeated vaccinations place your pet at risk, repeated titers place your pocketbook at risk.

Why don't you call the vet you got the heartworm meds from for the nexguard? Make sure you not taking the pup to be groomed until a few weeks after there third set of shots.

The link you provided mainly discusses how to interpret the antibody levels on a titer test. They are looking at what level do we (or should we)re -vaccinate a low titered pup.

The issue I was trying to make is that the titer test is very helpful to see if a pup had produced antibodies that will be picked up by a titer test. If it shows any antibodies the pup has either been previously vaccinated or was exposed in the environment. So in this case a titer would provide this info.

Rabies is not transmitted through the blood, urine, or feces of an infected animal, nor is it spread airborne through an open environment, so I have no problem using a mobile groomer where my dog is the only animal in there and her not asking for proof of rabies vaccine.

Yes but even if your dog is vaccinated for rabies would you want them around a dog that could have it? Rabid animals kinda go crazy so say your dog comes into the rabid dogs space some how and bites your dog? Maybe it can't give your dog rabies but if it's a much bigger dog it could take one bite to kill your dog and with any dog bite your looking at your dog getting an infection which can lead to other things. The bite could even lead to emotional disorders. With humans I would want poof of rabies shots before even touching a dog incase it bit me because then it's painful shots in the stomach. In my opinion it's not smart or safe for either to not at least make sure the dog is current on rabies.

Jackson is literally the *only* dog in the van while being groomed, in my driveway. No other animals are in there while he is. So nope, not worried about him getting rabies (considering he's been vaccinated 3x now for it) and is not around another animal.

Of course I wouldn't want my dog around an animal that seemed to have rabies or was known to have it, even if he was vaccinated. I mean, that seems like that kind of common sense to me.

It's not safe for the groomer in my opinion either.
