Default Jake - two days in :)

Just thought I would give everyone a quick update on what's been happening (hope you don't mind! )

We have leashed Jake in the house now for two days, day 1 wasn't so great as instead of weeing around the house, he took to just peeing up the side of granddads leg (so naughty). He was told a lot of very firm NOs and this seems to have got less today but he's still doing it a little but we catch him as he's about to do it and take him straight outside. On the plus side there has been no poos on any of the furniture!!! (which is a massive bonus and saves us so much washing!!! lol) so I would say it's working

The behavioural specialist comes tomorrow to observe and instruct so fingers crossed he will give us some helpful information!

I don't have time to read this entire thread so this advice may have been given ...

You might want to think about putting belly bands on him until he gets the hang of this. It will protect your furniture and people's pants.

Sounds like you guys are going in the right direction! Hope to see more improvements with Jake and please share what sort of observations the behavioral specialist gives.

Poor Granddad! But Yippeee! It so wonderful to hear there has been some progress made with Jake. And kudos to you for getting Jake much needed help. Please do keep us updated. I'm sure that your experience will help many here that may be having the same problems in the future.

Question...Do you have a voice recorder on your mobile phone? I'm thinking it's good idea to record the specialist's instructions as I'm guessing there be many.

I don't need to explain why I wrote something the way I did to people I don't even know because now quite frankly it's pissing me off now. The people on here who have been genuinely nice and helpful to me make it worth while but people who judge and make ridiculous comments like you just have without even taking a second thought give forums like this a bad name!!!! Just think about this, why would I bother joining a site like this and writing all that stuff down if all's I wanted to do is prove to my boyfriend that Jake is a little s**t? do you not think he can see that everyday? do you not think that it took me a long time to pluck up the courage to write on somewhere like this? I have never done anything before like this in my life. And also to suggest I'm not an animal lover is the most ridiculous thing I've EVER heard in my life, considering I have two of my own dogs and two horses; so I spend all that money because I don't like animals?! Yeah somehow I think your WRONG! How about next time before you make ridiculous and judging comments you have a little read about what's actually been said after and refrain from doing it again to save peoples feelings and your own embarrassment.
No I really do know what I am talking about, and realize we will never get the whole story but IT was enough for me to realize your detachment, your desperation in coming here....I never said you weren't an animal lover but not of this animal, ever hear the saying "thou who protest too much"? This was a bit much. I'm not judging I'm merely stating an opinion...judging would be to say something like "Hey Larry your an arse for disliking this dog" embarassed? nahhh, I'm wrong sometimes I get that but your first post to me screams aversion....Good luck with the pup and the boyfriend...

There are a few good vendors here who sell belly bands too if you need a referral.

You did imply I didn't like animals by saying about people not even liking stuffed animals. That's implying something that wasn't true. This post screams aversion, no, this post screamed someone who is utterly fustrated with answering the same question over and over and apologising for something over and over again. It's upsetting me and fustrating me. No need for luck with the boyfriend thanks, not sure why you would write that? It's got nothing to do with anything I have said at all. ALLS I WANTED WAS HELP NOT A LECTURE. I'm not the type of person to get upset by places like this but this is seriously wearing me down

I'm not going to go line for line with you but I didn't say YOU per say I was referring to someone else...your spending too much time on the defense...don't get wore down, let all the little stuff go and read what people are saying...honestly, that first post was awful, IT IT IT...

OK you want honesty? Here's what I read...You hate the pup, honestly you so don't like that dog because of the way it acts, I also think the pup totally reads you and knows you don't like him so he treats you poorly, you wish your BF would get rid of him but you know your Boyfriend loves him and so you are willing to do anything to make this right and better for you both...your living there and the pup is causing discomfort for all of you..and I give you credit for that but please don't attack me for reading what I read and then commenting, this is a forum for all.

So to that end I will say this. Proceed with the training, take some time with you and the pup alone, on a leash for a short walk with liver treats in hand, learn to like eachother, get down on his level, a little bit each day and I bet in time you will both fall in love...I believe that his behavior will change and get better when you are both happy and all the rest of the people in the house too! Don't worry it will get better but you all have to feel the same way, train the same way etc...hang in there.

I agree! Record the event. Then you can refer back. It's so easy to miss or forget things.

Good luck with the behaviorist. I have used trainers with Buster and also consulted an animal behaviorist and he was extremely helpful with Buster's issues. He taught me a lot about my approach with Buster and how to deal with his stubborn issues as well. We have been good for a while but lately Buster has been feeling a bit too alpha so I am going to call the behaviorist in to train me again. Good Luck and I hope things go well with your stubborn boy.

I really tried hard to not post on this thread, but now I am forced to comment. 1-ladyjane was NEVER rude, offered good advise, in fact, I saw really no real nastiness until the very end with OP having to repeat herself. Yes I too was offended with the "it" "the dog" but she explained her self. Then this was taken to the "Let's move forward" thread that Ann put up where things got really heated, yet ladyjane offered advise, was never rude. YET you are pouncing on markfromsea, accusing him of pouncing on ladyjane. I don't see markfromsea pointing any fingers at any one person, just making general opinion, I see markfromsea using no names, yet you are accusing him of being "obsessed" with ladyjane. I have seen markfromsea being attack on other threads as well with same comments It is no secret that you have sought every single opportunity to pounce on Ladyjane, you really need to let it go, why are you so obsessed.
If anyone is obsessed it is the ones that continue to attack markfromsea, they are OBSESSED with HIM. Again I say, ladyjane was NOT RUDE, why would you say markfromsea was "pouncing" on ladyjane" (eyeroll).
