| ![]() My Yorkies seem to need to go every three or four hours or so on average. They can usually hold it all night, though, when applicable. |

| ![]() I also agree that every dog is different. Night time holding is different than daytime too so just because they hold it for ten or 6-10 hours at night does not mean they should hold it that long during the day. Activity level, water intake, and sleep during the day can trigger a need to go. They form habits just like we do and many times their habits are derived from our routines. I don't like to ask mine to go longer than 4-5 hours, but that's me and my schedule allows for 4 hour breaks. On longer days or unexpected circumstances we have potty pads.

YT 500 Club Member | ![]() So guess it does not go by weight. It must go by how strong their bladder is. The longest I have left him alone is 6 hours during the day and he holds it. But at night it was 9 hours. So I am thinking 9 hours is too long for him. So now I get up at 4 and let him out and so far so good. |

| ![]() You could crate train he should not have free run if he is still potty training and puppies will get into things.

| ![]() every dog is different, Lola can hold it for 7 hours with no problem if she has to. she sleeps through the night and has since she was four months old. Had other yorkies that could not make it through the night or go much more than 4 hours, to me size is not a factor it's the dog and their water consumtion

| ![]() I've read this thread a couple of times as I have the same question..... Lucy is my puppy. She is ten months old. Right now my Lucy stays in her crate at night Almost 9 hours. I don't let her go longer than that. She wakes me in the morning and will go the bathroom when I take her out. imgot her she she was 5 months. I just have done a schedule that I followed which was 2 to 3 hours. I was pleased with how well she did as I kept on the schedule assuming that as she got older she would be able to hold it and extend the time I took her out to 4 or 5 hours and she could hold it more. It's 5 month later. If I am at all late on the schedule she will pee on the floor. Occasionally she will poop but mostly pees. I have her mostly in the kitchen during the day when I can't watch her. I have someone take her out during the day but again off the schedule at all and she will pee. I occasionally crate her for 4 hours at most. The restricted area It keeps her from getting into trouble. I do let her out after I take her out and also extend her area in the house so she doesn't think her whole house it hers to potty in. I have tried to have her out and about but she has always gone the bathroom way before it's time to take her out. I'm kinda frustrated and am not sure if I am doing something wrong. My dad seems to think she is too little of a dog to go outside and I should potty pad train her. She hates the pads and will rip them to shreds when I put them down. And she eats her poop constantly if left and I feed her pinapple to stop her but it doesn't matter. I don't want to confuse her but a friend had Pointed out that she doesn't get the outside thing either so how would that confuse her? I thought this would be easier.... What am I doing wrong?? |

| ![]() Rights now I amy on a 2 or 3 hour at most schedule... It's really hard and not progressing to extend hours. I guess I just figured extend the hours and her space and it would be easy. Not so much😔 |

| ![]() So do you watch your puppy like a hawk when it's out and about? I've been taking my pup out very single hour for the past two weeks. When I'm not watching him, he's in the crate. The most I'm gone is 4 hours during the day, including work days. Yesterday I decided to push his time and took him out after 90 mins and he made it. Then today I decided to try 2 hours and he made it that long too. Today I was in the kitchen cleaning I saw him sneak behind the trash can and get in his poop position. I said no! And scooped him up and took him out side (unfortunately he has diarrhea ![]() |

| ![]() No I don't watch her like a hawk when she is in her kitchen area. I couldn't do that with my schedule and I don't think I can leave her in the crate while I am at work. It too long and I think kinda cruel after she's been in all night. Is it confusing to do the pads if I've taken her out now? |
