I also agree that every dog is different. Night time holding is different than daytime too so just because they hold it for ten or 6-10 hours at night does not mean they should hold it that long during the day. Activity level, water intake, and sleep during the day can trigger a need to go. They form habits just like we do and many times their habits are derived from our routines. I don't like to ask mine to go longer than 4-5 hours, but that's me and my schedule allows for 4 hour breaks. On longer days or unexpected circumstances we have potty pads.
