| First Post - Looking for Short Hair Yorkie??? (Pic) Hello all, I have been researching the Yorkshire terrier breed and I am thinking about adding one to our family. When looking around at local breeders websites I notice that all of the parents have the long silky hair but I am more interested in a short haired type. Is the shorter hair a specific type within the breed or is it simply keeping them groomed with a "puppy cut"? The below picture (if it works) is exactly what I'd like to find. |

Yorkshire Terriers are long hair breeds (some longer than others or thicker depending on coat type ie soft or silky as per breed standard). Therefore, the short hair you see on that pic is as a result of a cut and not the coat type. I have pics on my profile of my yorkie with various coat lengths. You will note the shortest length is titled "after the groomers". Hope this has answered your question! | |

| There is no such thing as a "short hair" yorkie breed. It's all in the grooming, you want short hair have groomer give a puppy cut. I keep my boy in a puppy cut all year. 1- I like the look....2-I love mushing up my boy and not fearing matting up long hair....3-lastly less de-matting when brushing.... I LOVE the look of a full coat, and top knot, it's a beautiful look, if someone else maintained it lol. So I go with the puppy cut, easier to bathe, do not have to fear causing matting while bathing and it's a 1,2, 3 bath and blow dry. So when you are looking for that special little baby, don't let the long hair discourage you, all puppies have long hair, you can give a puppy cut after puppy has all had all their shots.

| If you are looking for a full breed Yorkie the short hair is from grooming. The AKC standard is full coat but it's a lot of work to keep up with. A lot of owners like the puppy cut because it's pretty low maintenance but does require frequent trips to the groomer or home grooming. I've fine both with mine and it takes some skill and Ive pretty much given up on that idea and we are back to using a professional. The cost ranges widely and usually starts at $25 but depends on where you go. Just mentioning this as it can because expensive with a trip to the groomer being about every 6 weeks or so. Good luck with your search.
